Position: EH&S/Security Manager

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Position Summary:

Overall responsibility for the development, implementation and sustainability of all EHS/Security programs for our pharmaceutical company. Participate as a global EHS/Security Team member to drive continuous improvement and provide alignment with site leadership in sustaining operational excellence in EHS/Security in accordance with all Federal, State and Local regulations. Provides expertise, advice and processes to assist all locations to identify, minimize or eliminate EHS/Security exposures or risks.

Responsibilities:



  • Collaboratively participate in global EHS/Security Team to drive continuous improvement of global EHS/Security management systems within the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State and Local Environmental, Health and Safety regulatory requirements.
  • Lead agency regulatory inspections (EPA, OSHA and local) and internal EHS/Security compliance audits to detect existing and potential compliance issues.
  • Proactively implement and direct all EHS/Security policies and procedures (primarily personnel safety, environmental compliance, illness and injury prevention, industrial hygiene, waste management, life safety, JSA's, ergonomics and training) to achieve participation performance targets.
  • Lead safety awareness and performance improvement systems through safety committee participation, coaching safety representatives and by providing metrics to key clients for their EHS/Security management purposes.
  • Develop short and long term EHS/Security strategies consistent with corporate strategies and aligned with company priorities.
  • Provide guidance, recommendations, regulatory interpretations and ultimate direction on various regulatory requirements which impact the business such as TSCA, CAA, CWA, RCRA, USDOT, NFPA, OSHA, ADA, & EPA & FDA regulations.
  • Champion leadership activities designed to create business ownership, responsibility and accountability that will ensure EHS/Security compliance
  • Create a monitoring system of performance for all affected areas of the business that will inspire and track continuous improvement.
  • Manage Industrial Hygiene monitoring programs for all locations.
  • Manage Environmental permitting for all locations.


  • In conjunction with local management, assure the adequacy of the Emergency Response Program and be an integral member of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Manage all environmental compliance issues related to waste management, wastewater permitting, air quality permitting, Federal, State and Local agency applications and submittal, environmental auditing and agency inspections for Operations, as required by federal/state regulations.
  • Manage external vendor/contractor (TSDF) environmental audits and ensure any identified gaps and properly addressed.
  • Oversee the development, monitoring and communication of environmental indices.
  • Plan, design and implement environmental strategies and procedure related to reducing waste, recycling and energy/natural resource conservation and reduction.
  • Manage all hazardous, infectious, bio-hazardous, non-hazardous and solid waste shipments for all Operations.
  • Co-develops site security initiatives, policies and initiatives with Corporate EHS/Security.
  • Act as a liaison with corporate, legal and government agencies regarding EHS/Security issues.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of all applicable Federal/State regulations.
  • Oversee the recordkeeping and reporting requirements (injury and illness data) as well as worker's compensation losses. Explore and implement measures for accident and cost reductions where necessary.
  • Provide oversight on the occupational medical surveillance program, return to work and drug and alcohol compliance programs.
  • Manage all Emergency First Responder Training.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and injuries and recommend corrective action plans to mitigate future losses.


Prepare the Following Reports:



  • OSHA 300 Log.
  • Hazardous Waste Reporting.


  • Residual Waste Reporting.
  • Community Right-To-Know (RTK) Reporting.
  • Emergency Response and Contingency Planning Notifications.
  • Bureau of Labor and Statistics Surveys.
  • Accident/Incident Investigations.


Expertise: Qualifications - Experience/Training/Education

Required:



  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • 5-7 years diverse experience in a dynamic EH&S/S role.
  • 5 years regulatory compliance experience.
  • Possess professional competence, strategic thinking, leadership and implementation competence.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified (attain within 6mo of employment).
  • HAZWOPER Training (attain within 6mo of employment)
  • Hazardous / Infectious / Chemotherapeutic Waste Management.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, RCRA and NFPA regulations and the ability to effectively train employees on these regulations.
  • Compliance and auditing background with strong interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to multitask and problem solve.
  • Familiarity with Industrial Hygiene equipment and associated practices.


Desired:



  • Previous experience in a FDA regulated environment and/or experience in the Pharmaceutical, Pharmacy, Medical Device or Manufacturing industry.


Expertise: Knowledge & Skill Requirements



  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, RCRA and NFPA regulations.
  • Proficiency with Federal and State environmental reporting and permitting.
  • Engineering controls and systems.


  • Computer competent in Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
  • Use of various testing, monitoring equipment and (Industrial Hygiene).
  • Strong ability to speak & convey information to large groups.
  • Identify needs, shortfalls or negative trends, engineer solutions and implement change.
  • Organize work, meet deadlines, exercise initiative and communicate effectively with others.


  • Must be able to interpret, understand and train on government regulations in a clear and concise manner.
