ABOUT THE JOB:

The Director, Rolling Stock leads the strategy, performance, and lifecycle planning of our rolling stock assets across North America. Reporting to the VP, Supply Chain, this role will be responsible for optimizing fleet utilization, driving digital transformation through telematics and asset systems, and ensuring operational excellence through data-driven maintenance and vendor programs.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a deep understanding of asset lifecycle management, team development, cross-functional execution, and cost optimization. This is a key role with high visibility across the enterprise.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

Fleet Strategy & Lifecycle Optimization



  • Own the end-to-end strategy for fleet acquisition, deployment, utilization, and retirement.
  • Design and implement long-term asset planning models focused on total cost of ownership (TCO) and value maximization.
  • Establish standardized duty and asset specifications based on regional, operational, and product requirements.



Maintenance, Compliance & Data Integrity



  • Lead the development and execution of robust preventive maintenance (PM) programs.
  • Ensure asset maintenance and operational records are compliant with data standards, business systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee integration of maintenance programs with digital tools and platforms for transparency and tracking.



Digital Systems, Telematics & Technology Integration



  • Direct the design, implementation, and scaling of telematics solutions to improve fleet performance, visibility, and predictive maintenance.
  • Collaborate with IT, field teams, and vendors to leverage digital platforms for enhanced asset tracking and decision-making.



Vendor Management & Service Partnerships



  • Manage national and regional vendor relationships, including service level agreements, pricing structures, and performance evaluations.
  • Drive strategic sourcing and contract negotiations to improve service quality and cost efficiency.



Cross-Functional Leadership & Team Development



  • Lead and develop a high-performing asset and field operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner closely with operations, finance, procurement, and logistics teams to align asset initiatives with broader organizational goals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and executive advisor on fleet planning and investment strategy.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred)
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in fleet and asset management, with a track record of leading large-scale programs across distributed operations
  • Demonstrated success in managing teams, implementing cross-functional initiatives, and communicating with senior leadership
  • Experience in developing and negotiating vendor contracts and national service agreements
  • Strong working experience with:

    • Fixed asset accounting principles and asset depreciation tracking
    • Business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms


  • Proven expertise in:

    • Fleet lifecycle planning and TCO modeling
    • Preventive maintenance and compliance programs
    • Telematics and asset management systems (e.g., Geotab, Samsara)
    • Vendor negotiation and service contract oversight


  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and asset management platforms
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to influence across levels and functions
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills:

    • Proven ability to present strategies and performance data to executive leadership
    • Comfortable influencing change, aligning stakeholders, and driving operational adoption of new technologies
    • High level of business acumen and problem-solving ability
