Practice Services Supervisor - Commercial

Position Description:

In the role of Practice Services Supervisor, you will be working in the Clinical Practice Services Department. This role supervises all staff on a particular team including all day-to-day operations, monitors workflow, delegates work, especially as it relates to issues concerning reimbursement for professional services rendered in multi-specialty medical practice; completes human resource functions including: interviewing, hiring, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations and staff development. Trains new employees and provides support when short staffed. Consistently seeks out opportunities for process improvement and workflow efficiency. Keeps direct contact with the Practice Services Manager at all times; acts in manager's absence and assists with special projects as needed.

Hybrid Position: 90% Remote & 10% Onsite

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises staff for the team to ensure staff perform proper reimbursement procedures and completes all follow-up processes for professional billing in Clinical Practice Services. Supervision includes recruitment, establishing the performance guidelines/standards and conducting evaluations of staff, developing training strategy for new and current staff, communication, delegation and control of production for area assigned. Recommend salary increases, reclassifications, and promotions. Make budgetary recommendations. Initiate and carry out corrective actions as necessary following department, college and legal guidelines.
  • Resolve problems, issues and concerns in collaboration with payers, physicians, administration and staff by collecting and compiling information to resolve individual problems and identify patterns and trends. Maintain knowledge of diverse contracts, government regulations and third-party policies and the impact they have on operational efficiency.
  • Analyze statistical data utilizing various financial reports to evaluate the efficiency of billing and collection to aid in managing accounts receivable. Evaluate procedures for accuracy and efficiency and oversee maintenance of current team protocols. Prepare reports for managers documenting findings and recommending solutions.
  • Participate in short- and long-range projects at the direction of leadership. Suggest and participate in CPS Billing & Collections department and MCW Clinical Department Management process improvements and changes.
  • Conduct and participate in team and departmental meetings. Establish, improve, and maintain appropriate internal and external communication. Facilitate professional affiliations and participate in professional development including certification programs.
  • Maintains integrity of "separation of duties" as it relates to approving, processing and mailing refund payments.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities:

  • Ability to interact with people effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing and collections revenue cycle as it specifically relates to medical coding, reimbursement, contracting and processing payments.
  • Knowledge of human resource management practices, including supervision, training/mentoring, hiring and disciplinary procedures.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, delegating and supervising.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of medical billing concepts and coding conventions.
  • Ability to take initiative and to exercise independent judgment, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word processing.
  • Knowledge of quality control, customer service standards, information management, procedural process, and recordkeeping.
  • Computer, technical, interpersonal, oral communication, listening, and patience skills.




Preferred Schedule:




Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Minimum Required Experience: 5 years

Field: Business or healthcare administration.
