Job Summary

Participate in the lab work of material characterization at IFF R&D.

The incumbent will be responsible for laboratory bench work involved in material characterization.

Primary activities include preparation of analytical samples and conduct basic material characterization analyses under general direction of senior technical staff, following instructions and experiment protocols in lab operations, accurately recording experimental data, and observing all lab safety rules and regulations. This will include communicating with supervisor to understand the goal and scope of the work, setting task priorities, interacting with other scientists in the lab, learning and following the established lab procedures.

This position will require a good understanding of general chemistry, chemical lab operations, and lab safety. Experience in conducting IR and Raman analyses preferred. Attention to detail and familiarity with computer software such as MS Word, Excel and basic statistic software etc., are expected.

This position is for a mid-level scientist with good technical knowledge and ability to independently execute research tasks. The individual will be part of a successful team focused on delivering innovation to IFF.

Key Responsibilities:

Creation 80%

  • Works in collaboration with others and independently to advance projects. Conducts experiments independently.
  • Analyzes data from a variety of laboratory techniques and instruments.
  • Documents experiments, makes technical presentations, and contributes to progress/technical reports.

Innovation 10%

  • Maintains familiarity with current scientific literature in related discipline to stay current in new techniques that can be used internally to support project needs and knowledge-building within the functional group.
  • Develops improved lab processes by customizing equipment and optimizing methods.

Customer intimacy & Technical Partnership 5%

  • Communicates technical ideas and concepts as well as research results with project and functional teams regularly.
  • Develops understanding of how the broader R&D team is organized and works together.
  • Interacts as part of a team with internal and/or external customers to support the relationship.

Leadership 5%

  • Takes on laboratory safety tasks or role to solve potential safety and environmental problems within their immediate work area or group.

Requirements:

  • BS degree with 2 years or MS degree with 0 years of appropriate experience.
  • Demonstrated basic technical knowledge in material or analytical science.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in cross-functional projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow test protocols and be details oriented.
