JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center is looking for a part-time (20 hours/week) research assistant to support field and greenhouse research conducted within the College of Agricultural Sciences.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Collect plant and soil samples from the field or greenhouses
  • Scout horticultural and agronomic research plots for pest damage
  • Assist with the crop variety testing team including packaging seeds, data harvests, and post-harvest processing and data collection across multiple crops, as needed
  • Assist with data collection and data entry across horticultural and agronomic experiments
  • Assist with experimental field setup
  • Communicate and coordinate with the research farm managers about research progress and field needs
  • Provide additional assistance within the College of Agricultural Sciences including at the Mendal's Way Greenhouse facility and the on-campus greenhouses, as needed

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in agroecology, plant sciences, or related fields.
  • The ability to work in a variety of conditions, including outdoors and greenhouses
  • Willingness to learn and work as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and well organized.
  • Proven ability to engage in hands-on problem-solving and practical tasks
  • Good communicator and able to relay information back to managers
  • 3-5 years of agricultural research experience
  • A drivers license. The selected candidate must complete a motor vehicle record check. If the selected candidate is under the age of 21, they must also take an online University-sponsored driver training program.
