Your Role With Us:The Referral Specialist in the Infusion Center plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth coordination of patient care by triaging and managing incoming referrals and healthcare provider requests, whether received via fax or electronically through Epic. They are responsible for processing referrals accurately and directing them to the appropriate staff as needed. The specialist collaborates closely with charge RNs and nursing leadership to verify the accuracy and completeness of orders, including ICD-10 coding, patient demographics, signed orders, and insurance information. They also transcribe approved orders not placed through Epic and manage assigned Work Queues, promptly addressing any registration errors. Coordination with Oncology Clinics is essential to align chemotherapy treatment schedules, and the specialist assigns referrals to appropriate visits accordingly. In terms of insurance, the specialist verifies benefits, submits prior authorization requests in accordance with payer requirements, and ensures that all authorizations are properly documented in Epic, including visit counts and timeframes. They address reimbursement denials, communicate coverage details with patients and staff, and ensure necessary ABNs are in place. The Referral Specialist also assists with patient registration, scheduling, check-in, and phone screening, collecting accurate demographic and financial information and guiding patients through available programs and services. They work with billing departments and financial assistance teams to resolve patient billing questions. Additionally, they upload documents into Epic, support improvement projects, and actively participate in Kaizen processes and standard work creation.
