The Director of Benefits is responsible for the development, implementation, administration and management of the hospital's employee benefit programs including health & welfare, voluntary benefits, retirement plans, and leave programs. The role requires strategic leadership, project management, strong knowledge of employee benefit regulations, and ensures a commitment to communication and delivery of all programs and services as part of the Total Rewards Strategy.

This Director of Benefits will:

  • Oversee the design, development, and administration of innovative, modern, inclusive and comprehensive employee benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, life, retirement, earned time, and absence management.
  • Plan, direct and oversee day-to-day operations for the Employee Benefits Department.
  • Select, train and evaluate team members to ensure the smooth and efficient administration of benefit programs and services.
  • Develop and manage the annual department and fringe budgets ensuring alignment with organizational and financial goals.
  • Ensure benefit programs comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations including the Affordable Care Act (ACA), ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, IRS, Secure 2.0.
  • Prepare and submit required government filings, benefit reports, and audits as required.
  • Develop and implement innovative communication strategies to effectively educate and inform employees about available benefits options, enrollment processes and related policies.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop long-term benefit strategies that align with organizational goals and Total Rewards Strategy.
  • Perform ongoing monitoring, assessment and tracking of department operations and benefit program utilization.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of benefit offerings; establish and maintain quality improvement metrics and system for measuring results
  • Partner with external vendors, brokers and consultants to negotiate contracts, analyze plan performance, and stay informed about industry trends and best practices.
  • Provide and deliver recommendations, presentations, and reports on benefits-related functions, programs and projects.

To qualify, you must have:

  • BA degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field. MA degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in benefits administration, including at least 5 years in a management or supervisory capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles, practices and regulations of benefits administration and program oversight.
  • Expertise with budget principles, practices, and procedures as applied in a large organization.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices of benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, absence management programs, voluntary benefits and perks.
  • Skilled in team building, developing a creative vision, and strong interpersonal communication.
  • Advanced analytical skills necessary to interpret complex plans and claims data, ability to identify trends and develop actionable insights.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization; ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to small and large groups
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook) for documentation, presentations, and communication. Advanced Excel functional and analytical knowledge including formulas, VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables and Charts.
