Make a Career Out of Changing Lives

This is not just a job-it's a calling.
Working as a Direct Care/Residential Counselor at the Wediko New Hampshire Hillsborough campus means stepping into the lives of children and teens who've faced significant emotional and behavioral challenges. It's hard. It's high-stakes. And it's absolutely life-changing-for them and for you.

This role isn't for everyone. The work can be intense and emotionally demanding. But for the right person, it offers the rare chance to make a profound and lasting impact on the trajectory of a young person's life. You'll be part of a team that shows up-day in, day out-to create an environment where healing and growth are not just possible, but expected.

Your Role: Building a Transformational Experience

As a Residential Counselor, you'll work directly with youth in a therapeutic, residential school setting-helping them develop new skills, build trust, and work toward stability and success. You'll be supported by a team of clinicians and educators, but you will be the one making the most consistent, everyday impact.

You will:

  • Build meaningful, one-on-one relationships with students-balancing support, structure, and empathy
  • Help manage behavior in alignment with each student's Individual Treatment Plan (ITP)
  • Participate in daily group therapy sessions and recreational programming
  • Provide safety, supervision, and emotional containment during times of crisis
  • Be a source of consistency, encouragement, and accountability in the students' lives
  • Take part in the day-to-day life of campus-from therapeutic moments to meal prep, activities, and everything in between
  • Help transport students to home visits, appointments, and off-campus events
  • Support medication administration and complete necessary daily documentation

What You'll Gain

  • The opportunity to grow your skills in human services and behavioral health
  • Direct supervision and mentorship from licensed clinicians
  • Real-world experience that can launch or accelerate a career in social work, psychology, or education
  • Deep personal growth as you face challenges, celebrate wins, and make a tangible difference

Who We're Looking For

  • Someone with heart, patience, and the ability to show up on hard days
  • At least 2 years of experience working with children or adolescents (or 7 years of parenting experience)
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills and a sense of humor don't hurt either
  • A team player who can also work independently and remain calm in crisis
  • Must be able to complete CPI and medication administration training
  • A valid driver's license and safe driving record (transportation of students is part of the job)

Impact Corps

Residential Counselors can enroll in The Home's Impact Corps - a fellowship learning track designed to provide adults with an opportunity to help serve vulnerable children and young adults while gaining industry experience in counseling, education, clinical roles, and leadership. Along the way, gain new training, hone your skills, and be eligible for bonuses adding up to $5,000 upon successful completion! To learn more, visit: bit.ly/3ONYlOg

The position requires the ability to walk the rugged terrain of the Wediko New Hampshire campus, an active wooded setting; Wediko Residential Counselors will be outdoors, playing sports, or participating in indoor recreational activities with students. The ability to bend, hold and lift is also required as indicated by CPI behavioral management techniques.
