What you'll do

The New Product Introduction (NPI) Department is looking for the ideal candidate to join our team in Carlsbad, CA! As a contributing member to product development teams, NPI provides design requirement input related to manufacturing, test, and producibility. NPI engineers lead prototype hardware builds to support product development schedules, ensuring smooth transitions from development to production. They prepare both the product and the organization for manufacturing, establish key performance metrics to measure operational success, and conduct lessons-learned reviews to drive continuous improvement. The ideal candidate should be able to clearly articulate their experience in many of the areas listed below.


The day-to-day

  • Provide technical leadership and best practices in manufacturing and testing
  • Collaborate with Business Area leadership and engineering teams to support new product development, ensuring alignment within cost and schedule targets
  • Work closely with Operational leadership and functional teams to facilitate a smooth transition of new products into production
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks while solving complex technical challenges using your expertise
  • Support the engineering, drawing release and procurement of prototype materials and services

What you'll need

  • Engineering degree(s) with 10+ years hands-on hardware experience
  • Proactive personality - takes on new challenges without being asked
  • Results oriented, driven toward desired outcomes
  • Use of data to support and defend recommendations
  • Full product lifecycle experience - active involvement in product development to manufacturing floor support in a small to medium volume facility.
  • Experience engaging with contract manufacturers on prototype hardware builds.
  • Strong advocate for configuration management - hardware and software BOM configuration
  • Ability to advocate for and apply applicable regulations, IPC specifications, workmanship standards, etc.
  • US citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain a secret security clearance
  • Up to 10% travel

What will help you on the job

  • Strong technical skills across multiple engineering disciplines, including high-speed digital and RF electronics, mechanical design, and optics.
  • Hands-on experience in product development, problem solving, and transitioning products into production.
  • Extensive experience in electro-mechanical hardware fabrication, product assembly, and testing.
  • Proactive leadership style, preference for hands-on involvement, takes accountability for individual contributions.
  • Strong technical acumen and communication skills-capable of engaging in detailed technical discussions while simplifying complex topics for broader audiences.
  • Extensive experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and Bill of Materials (BOM) structuring to support manufacturing.

Salary range

$145,000.00 - $229,000.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $180,500.00- $270,500.00/ annually
