Job Summary

UCSF Neurosurgery is ranked #2 in the nation for neurosurgery by US News & World Report and provides a full range of adult and pediatric neurosurgery specialty services.

This position is located at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $87.66 - $108.99 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Neurological Surgery at UCSF is home to leading physicians and scientists dedicated to treating patients with neurosurgical disorders and to the search for better therapies and cures. The UCSF Neurosurgery Clinic offers comprehensive evaluations, treatment planning, surgery, and rehabilitation for conditions ranging from nerve disorders to brain tumors.

Required Qualifications


  • Two (2) years of outpatient/inpatient PA Neurosurgery experience.
  • Demonstrated competence in the following areas: Clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership, and problem solving.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Two (PA) years of practical experience in surgical outpatient setting, preferably neuro spine/pain management.

License/Certification


  • Active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA).
  • California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Current national board certification by first day of work and maintain.
  • Active and transferable DEA license to California and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Complete an APA recognized graduate master's degree program as a physician assistant.
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
  • Current AHA BLS as minimum requirement.

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
