Job Summary

The Department of Radiology is a 24-hour, seven day a week operation providing Imaging Services to adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatients. Position rotates scanning locations to include Davis Tower, ACC, 48X, and PCH. The Non-Invasive Vascular section of Radiology performs a variety of Non-Invasive exams and interventional procedure support for diagnosis and treatment of disease processes.

The Non-Invasive Vascular Technologist competently performs routine and specialized ultrasound exams of varied complexity to produce quality images for physicians and other health care providers to diagnose, treat, and monitor vascular disease processes. Works independently, exercising sound judgment, and executing developed clinical skills on challenging diagnostic procedures and situations to deliver accurate results in a timely manner. Work routines are guided by established procedures and protocols; quality of work performed is approved or reviewed by the shift supervisor, manager, or Vascular Surgeon. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • American Registration for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification with applicable credential [e.g., Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT, etc.], or equivalent certification
  • Applicable credential: Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credential
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR required
  • Capably demonstrates the knowledge and ability to operate ultrasound equipment in order to produce a quality product.
  • Must be able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as vascular technology field advances.
  • Ability to follow extensive and detailed protocols.
  • Ability to use a checklist while performing studies.
  • Analytical skills necessary to perform non-routine, complex ultrasound studies.
  • Ability to perform detailed and complex ultrasounds on a varied patient population.
  • Self-starter requiring minimal direction from supervisor or physicians.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize normal human anatomy, certain pathological conditions, and the ability to utilize ultrasound equipment to differentiate disease processes and artifacts.
  • Ability to function and remain calm under multiple direction and/or fluctuations of work volume.
  • Skill to organize workload by priority to produce a sufficient volume of work in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills; documents and reports clearly and concisely. Conveys instructions, explanations, directions and information appropriately.
  • Superior telephone, communication, and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and positively with people.
  • Ability and skills to be sensitive and professional with patients, physicians, and staff in relations and appearance
  • Ability to assist healthcare practitioners during surgery or other sterile procedures.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and congenital/acquired pathology as they relate to the use and interpretation of ultrasound diagnostic procedures.
  • Knowledge of principles of ultrasound physics, and the propagation of ultrasound through tissues.
  • Knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures sufficient to effectively perform job functions or refer to others.
  • Knowledge of standard keyboard, ability to input/retrieve data accurately and to observe applicable Radiology Information System (RIS) and Information Services (IS) access codes, security and patient privacy.
  • Ability to operate Epic, vascular lab reporting tools, Excel, Word and other patient care management systems for documentation activities and report generation.
  • Ability to recognize the need for confidentiality and acts accordingly.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and dependability, i.e., (but not limited to): attendance, punctuality, positive attitude, initiation of duties not specifically stated (linen, supplies, cleanliness of work area), maintenance/upkeep of equipment, etc.

Work Environment

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
