The Program Coordinator at the UIC Disability Cultural Center (DCC) supports the Director and Associate Director in coordinating DCC programs and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Center. Employees in this position will provide a welcoming point of contact for campus and community members, independently track and manage program-related data, maintain public-facing communications, and provide overall coordination support to events and initiatives of the department.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative office support to the activities, services, projects, and special programs of the UIC Disability Cultural Center. Request, track, and monitor logistical aspects of public programs, including accessibility services, and maintain event attendance and evaluation records.
  • Maintain communications infrastructure, including email lists, website content, informational materials, and social media contacts as needed. Coordinate with DCC staff and other Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change to promote events and programming.
  • Participate in outreach efforts, clearly communicating the mission and work of the Disability Cultural Center and the Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change to campus and community constituencies.
  • Provide a welcoming point of contact for students visiting the Disability Cultural Center, both in-person and virtually.
  • Provide direct supervision and coordination of student employees.
  • Compile and complete various reports and internal administrative documents to coordinate efforts and assess programs. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications Required:

    1. Bachelor's degree.
    2. A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of disability arts and culture, disability history, disability justice perspectives, disability studies insights, and disability communities (including Sick, Mad, Spoonie, Neurodivergent, and Deaf communities).
    3. Knowledge of accessibility practices for events and communications.


    (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Two years of experience with disability communities, disability arts and culture, and/or advocacy organizations, with at least one year in an administrative position.
    • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, knowledge of events planning and effective publicity/outreach.
    • Skill in real-time and written communication; interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, the public, and outside constituency groups; skill with Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
    • Ability to track and manage detailed information, ability to organize tasks and work in a self-directed way, ability to supervise student workers, ability to analyze problems and brainstorm solutions.
