The City of Clemson is seeking to fill the position of Clemson Area African American Museum Manager. This position, under limited supervision, will oversee the museum's operations and guide its programs, collections, exhibits, and signature events. Duties include exhibit curation, visitor experience, staff supervision and community engagement. |

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

- Provide leadership, daily management, and strategic vision for the Museum, including serving as the City's spokesperson and advocate for CAAAM.
- Oversee Museum daily operations, staff and volunteers, education and public programming, and external communications.
- Develop, monitor, and manage an annual Museum budget in concert with the City Finance Director; prepare financial reports, and provide periodic updates, as requested, to the Clemson City Council and City Administrator.
- Oversee and participate in fundraising efforts for CAAAM - including grants-writing, special events, requests to local, state, and national foundations, and strategic partnerships/ collaborations with community partners.
- Create a marketing and promotions plan for the Museum.
- Oversee the development, management, and preservation of Museum collections.
- Identify and participate in prospective professional development opportunities.
- Ensure that the operations and administration of CAAAM are in compliance with City policies and ordinances, adhere to state and federal regulations, and follow established best standards and practices for Museums.
- Some evenings and weekends are required for special events or other duties required to meet the Museum's mission.
- Works with the Communication's staff to advertise and educate the public about the Museum.

Master's degree in African American History or Art, African American Studies, Museum Studies, Museum Education, Public Administration, Museum Studies or Business Administration degree or a related field with an African American emphasis. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Museum management at a senior level. Demonstrated success in building and sustaining community engagement, educational outreach, and public programming. Experience working for or managing a government-owned Museum. Proven success in expanding the audience, reach, and impact of a small or rural museum. Or any equivalent combination of education and experience. |
Licenses or Certifications |
Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license or be able to obtain one. |
