Job Summary: Provides for the continuation of the numerous operations critical to the maintenance of the potato breeding program and the Rhinelander Agricultural Research Station. This individual will be responsible for assisting with many of the daily operations of the station. Responsibilities: Supports the operational activities of a farm, field operation, or agricultural facility, maintains plant production, and maintenance to ensure operational efficiencies. 30% Plants, cultivates, and harvests vegetables, fruits, nuts, horticultural specialties, and field crops 10% Cleans, grades, sorts, packs, and loads harvested products and seed 20% Maintains and evaluates hardscapes 20% May operate farm equipment 5% May participate in irrigation activities 15% Assists with the station maintenance (main facility, equipment, implements, greenhouses, storage facility, etc.) Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Diploma Qualifications: Required Qualifications - Experience in the planting and harvesting process. - Experience performing tasks requiring attention detail and following policies/instructions. - Effective communication and teamwork skills. Preferred Qualifications: - Work experience in a greenhouse environment and/or conducting field research License/Certification: Required Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm with expectations for on-call status on evening and weekend field or grounds maintenance, irrigation, or storage efforts. Overtime required during the field season at RARS and expected for commuting to the Hancock Research Station (which is two hours from RARS). Work Type: It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Appointment Type, Duration: Terminal appointment. This position has the possibility to be extended based on need and/or funding. Salary: Minimum $17.00 HOURLY Depending on Qualifications The anticipated salary range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hour. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
