The Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Perioperative 101 Program Core Course Curriculum is an evidence-based online educational program and the gold standard for preparing nurses to function competently in the OR. The program's review process is always compliant with the most current AORN Perioperative Standards, Recommended Practices, and Guidelines. Perioperative Nursing is a nursing specialty that works with patients having operative or other invasive procedures. Perioperative nurses work closely with surgeons, nurse anesthetists, surgical technologists, and nurse practitioners.

Job Description

Perioperative RNs work 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts and are required to take "call." They must be able to arrive at their hiring location when on "call". The Perioperative 101 Program will prepare Jefferson Health registered nurses (RN) to function efficiently in the role of RN Circulator and Scrub Nurse.
Program Description

  • The Perioperative 101 Program is a twelve-month training program that will include a rigorous computer-based/classroom training period using the AORN Perioperative 101 Program online core course curriculum.
  • Jefferson Health operating room simulation training will support this learning. A 10-12 week specialty rotation schedule in both the RN Circulator/Scrub Nurse roles will be provided throughout the hospitals system-wide ORs.
  • The Perioperative 101 Program RNs will be required to pass the final online core course curriculum exam after completing the online modules and the RN Circulator/Scrub Nurse
  • Specialty rotation will be scheduled prior to start of the three-month Novice OR RN orientation period at the hospital campus site location where the Perioperative 101 Program RN will be hired.
