Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
JSNN seeks an outstanding Postdoctoral Research Associate who will focus on developing nanostructured surfaces with varying topographies and chemistries and examine their efficacy in mitigating the attachment, growth, and persistence of various pathogens. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will fabricate 'ideal' interface arrays (of controlled topography and surface chemistry) on substrates that are compatible with multimodal imaging and spectroscopy of pathogen-material interactions including atomic force microscopy, optical imaging, electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy.
In this role, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team at NC A&T, in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (
ORNL) and other partner Universities on a project that is funded by the
DOE Biopreparedness Research Virtual Environment (BRaVE) initiative. The overarching goal of the project is to establish an integrated workflow that spans clinical and scientific institutions to enable a structure-guided design of bio-material interactions to optimize the abiotic-biotic interface.
This position will reside in the Department of Nanoengineering, Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering at North Carolina A&T State University. The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (
JSNN) is an academic collaboration between North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) and The University of North Carolina Greensboro (
UNC Greensboro). In addition, the
JSNN core facility is a shared user facility located in a 105K sq. ft. interdisciplinary research building.
JSNN is also one of the sites for the National Science Foundation (
NSF)'s National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (
NNCI) program and part of the Southeastern Nanotechnology Infrastructure Corridor (
SENIC).
JSNN core provides open access to more than 100 state-of-the-art equipment including fabrication, imaging, characterization, biological, analytical chemistry, and computational tools; specialized services; and expert staff. |
Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (
