Accounting Year-Round Intern

The Sherwin-Williams Finance internship is designed to provide you with hands-on experience in General Accounting.

The internship features Sherwin Business Services General Accounting experience, where you'll learn to support various headquarters and field personnel with payroll, utility and telecom accounting related questions. You will gain meaningful exposure to various daily accounting tasks including preparing weekly and monthly reports all while developing the skills necessary for a successful finance or accounting career.

This internship is scheduled to begin March 2025.

Year Round: This role requires availability to work a minimum of 15 hours and maximum of 28 hours per week during the school year and maximum of 37.5 hours during the summer, with the ability to work at least one (1) year.

Because this role involves access to confidential financial information, the Company has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and to provide similar protections for its clients and potential investments.

Day to Day Responsibilities:



  • Participate in various financial activities for the month-end close process.
  • Create and upload journal entries, conduct analysis/reconciliations of accounts in OneStream.
  • Review utility and telecom GL files in Oracle Cloud and ensure accuracy of accounting entries.
  • Review suspense and make journal entries to clear and update mappings as necessary
  • Assist with month end reporting for payroll (US and Canada)



Leadership Development:



  • Understanding practices and procedures that are in place to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of financial information and transactions.
  • Calculation and processing of journals, accruals, allocations, transactions, etc. related to your Finance domain. Understanding the impact of entries, transactions, and reconciliations and reacting to these insights accordingly. Identifying standardization and process improvement opportunities.
  • Adjusting & verifying account balances at the end of a cycle (i.e., month) in order to produce financial statements representative of the business' financial position as of a specific date. Reconciling balance sheets as needed.



Professional Development:



  • Support as a liaison between systems accounting team and operating divisions to assist with accounting related questions.
  • Participate in Ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Exposure to transactional and analysis related accounting responsibilites.

Minimum Requirements



  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.
  • Must be enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, or Businessat the time of the internship
  • Willingness to work all scheduled hours, including overtime as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation



Preferred Qualifications



  • Be a rising or current Sophomore or Junior in college or university at the start of the internship program
  • Have prior school or work experience in finance, accounting, and business
  • Have at least one (1) year of experience using Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams, and/or Outlook)
  • Have previous experience working in a team-oriented setting including work experience, extracurricular activities, military service, etc.
  • Previous experience in the Sherwin-Williams Corporate Finance Internship Program
