We are looking for someone who is motivated, dynamic, and agile to perform a variety of general and statutory accounting, financial reporting and analyses for the North American property and casualty insurance division. This position will prepare quarterly financial packages, statutory reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, analyses, journal entries, compliance filings, and work on projects. This position will also work with data cubes and accounting hubs and prepare ad hoc financial analyses. The Accountant III will be partnering with others in the finance organization, as well as, interacting with underwriting, claims, actuary, and compliance departments.



Responsibilities

    Prepare GAAP and P&C statutory financial package, including flux analysis between periods and related accounts.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, investigate exceptions, monitor accounts, and propose entries for direct, ceded and assumed transactions.
  • Assist with the review of certain balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare journal entries, ensuring that supporting documentations are robust and that processes behind each entry are understood.
  • Assist with the review of certain journal entries.
  • Provide financial information to management, internal and external auditors.
  • Work with data cubes, accounting hubs and subledgers to trace components and sub-components of general ledger accounts and support ad hoc and complex analyses.
  • Partner with other departments in the organization to support analyses of financial results.
  • Prepare Yellow Book schedules and statutory filings as assigned or as needed.
  • Assist with the review and or preparation of billing and collection for legacy reinsurance programs.
  • Look to continuously improve business processes and communicate opportunities and issues to management, while maintaining strong and effective internal controls.
  • Special projects as assigned, or as needed.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of strong and progressive accounting experience, including experience in preparing financial statements and flux analyses. Insurance industry experience a plus.
  • Bachelors' degree in Accounting required. CPA and or MBA preferred.
  • Strong understanding and application of U.S. GAAP and SOX. Statutory accounting and reinsurance background preferred.
  • Oracle ERP, Hyperion/FCCS, Smartview and or similar accounting software experience a plus.
  • Intermediate to Advanced skill in Excel required.
  • Critical thinker with ability to prepare workbooks from the ground up based on terms of contracts and or assumptions, and to organize information for presentations.
  • Self-starter, proactive in looking for ways to improve, hard-working and highly analytical.
  • Ability to multi-task, to prioritize competing commitments in a fast-paced environment, and to deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and capable of delivering high quality work results.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as, in a team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
