JOB SUMMARY
The Bilingual Family Programs Associate leads and develops the DiMenna Children's History Museum (DCHM) Spanish language program, Hablemos. Hablemos engages kids (ages 4-10) and their grownups in free Museum programs (storytimes, gallery tours, studio programs, Zoom programs, etc.). In addition to overseeing this program, the Family Programs Associate will be expected to actively lead community outreach to cultivate a Spanish-speaking audience, translate departmental materials from English to Spanish, perform general departmental administrative tasks, and assist with other family programs as needed.
This position is part-time. There are 16 administrative/prep hours per month and 4 teaching hours per month which are guaranteed, and the opportunity to take on additional hours. The Family Programs Associate must be available to teach on at least two Saturdays per month and maintain a regular schedule for their remaining hours during the work week.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES


  • Lead Hablemos twice-a-month, for children ages 4-10 years old and their grown-ups;
  • Cultivate a Spanish-speaking audience through active outreach efforts to community organizations, schools, parents groups, etc.;
  • Choose themes, stories, art projects for Hablemos;
  • Translate departmental materials;
  • Plan logistics for programs; coordinate and monitor supplies;
  • Write occasional blog posts highlighting Hablemos;
  • Write program copy for website;
  • Document projects and maintain records;
  • Perform general administrative tasks for the department;
  • Assist with additional family programs as needed.


REQUIREMENTS


  • Bilingual in Spanish/English;
  • BA in related field;
  • Regular Saturday and weekday availability;
  • Ability to work independently and to take ownership over a program;
  • Two plus years' experience working with children and families, and with art making;
  • Interest in New York and U.S. history;
  • Flexibility and ability to work during holidays and school vacation weeks;
  • Experience working in a museum, a plus.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee with or without accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This position will require the employee to lift (up to 25 lbs.), bend, stoop, walk, speak and stand for up to 8 hours in a day. Sedentary computer work is also required.
COMPENSATION
Salary: $25/hour
