Embry-Riddle Athletics is seeking candidates for an Assistant Director, Athletics Communications position. The Assistant Director, Athletics Communications is an active part of the Athletics External Department. Summary: In support of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's (ERAU) mission and objectives, the Assistant Director, Athletic Communications provides leadership and support in athletic communications, sports information, content creation, media relations, and public relations for the Embry-Riddle Athletic Department. Embry-Riddle is a member of the Sunshine State Conference. (NCAA DII) Embry-Riddle Athletics supports the philosophy of "Student-Person-Player" by developing the student-athlete intellectually, socially, psychologically, spiritually and physically in preparation for life after college. The department of Athletics Communications is responsible for telling their story. Responsibilities: Execution of game management and statistic program operation
- Cover home athletic events and provide in-game and post-game information to coaches and media, including statistics, in a timely and effective manner.
- Write press releases and weekly updates; distribute to local, regional, and national media outlets.
- Facilitate media at home contests, including designating seating/space, internet/phone access as needed and distribution of media credentials.
- Provide the media and opposing teams with rosters, schedules, pre-game stories, game summaries and feature stories on the University's Athletic Programs, its student-athletes, and coaches in a timely and effective manner.
- Serve as part of the media relations team for any in-season or post-season tournaments hosted by Embry-Riddle.
- Cover out-of-town games and send results to the media.
- Oversee live streaming and broadcast of designated home Athletics events
- Keep statistical and information files on student-athletes and Athletic Programs.
- Maintain and update department archives; maintain team and individual statistics; maintain and update team and individual records.
- Compile statistics and update records (season and career), as necessary.
- Keeps meticulous records and maintains historical archives of ERAU's digital assets.
- Manage and organize archives of photo, video, and graphic content.
- Submit nominations for Conference, Regional, and National Awards.
Communication and collaboration
- Promote student-athletes for academic and athletic awards.
- Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with coaches and staff.
- Work collaboratively amongst the external team to achieve the goals within the Embry-Riddle Athletics strategic plan and offer Embry-Riddle Athletic stakeholders a consistent form of messaging through multiple marketing platforms.
- Work closely with sports marketing to help design and implement a social media plan to promote the athletic department and its student-athletes.
- Support the business development team in the delivery and execution of digital sponsorship deliverables.
- Facilitate positive relationships with various media outlets
- Pitch stories to local, regional, and national media.
- Facilitate the arrangement of interviews with coaches and student-athletes for media.
- Establish and maintain contacts with Sunshine State Conference, regional and national athletics communications directors.
- Supervise and mentor students for game day operations and office responsibilities.
Upkeep, creation, and design of digital/print publications and content.
- Schedule and execute media days in collaboration with sports marketing.
- Produce digital and print media for designated varsity sports programs and serve as the editor responsible for design, layout, and content of these publications.
- Design, maintain and provide day-to-day updating of Athletics website.
- Develop graphics for use in social media, brochures, programs and flyers.
- Produce weekly digital newsletter.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience in sports information, communication, public relations or related field.
- Experience in a college or professional sports information or communications setting preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency with both Mac and PC computers
- Working knowledge of StatCrew /NCAA Live Stats/PrestoStats statistical software.
- Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere Pro.
- Knowledge of content management systems.
- Experience with video recording and editing, as well as motion graphics.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
