The Marketing Accountant position will act as a liaison between Marketing and Revenue Accounting to ensure SOX compliance and Accounting's understanding of all Marketing Contracts. This position will be responsible for review of new and existing oil and gas purchase, sales, transportation, gathering and processing contracts to determine proper recording per accounting policies, procedures and regulations. Other duties include review of contracts and confirming proper distribution of oil and gas royalty payments to working interest owners and royalty interest owners, including state and federal agencies, and reporting to state agencies.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review new and existing contracts on a continuous basis, document accounting and revenue treatment and effectively communicate any updates or changes
  • Ensure compliance with applicable policies and review contracts to ensure that revenue is recorded in compliance with US GAAP
  • Ensure revenue distribution to interest owners are compliant based on contract terms
  • Work closely with Revenue, Tax, Marketing, Production, and Operational Departments
  • Assist with completion of month-end accruals and financial reporting
  • Provide input to strategic decisions that affect oil and gas purchase, sales, transportation, gathering and processing contracts
  • Effectively communicate decisions surrounding revenue and accounting treatment with other departments
  • Liaison between marketing and multiple revenue teams
  • Other responsibilities and reporting as assigned by management
  • Perform various ad hoc projects as assigned
  • Work with the VP of Marketing on special projects

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (BBA or BS) in accounting
  • At least five (5+) years of oil and gas accounting experience
  • At least five (5+) years of demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office, (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong working knowledge of oil and gas accounting and general accounting principles

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least five (5+) years of relevant contract and revenue experience with an Oil and Gas company
  • Experience with oil and gas marketing contract review
  • SAP or similar accounting software experience
  • Regulatory Royalty and Production Tax knowledge and/or experience
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and collaborative skills
  • Ability to suggest and implement process improvements to increase effectiveness while ensuring SOX compliance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively work with all levels of an organization
  • Process oriented with a strong attention to detail
