GENERAL SUMMARY: Patient Service Representative is responsible for timely and accurate patient registration processes. Responsible for interviewing patients in order to gather all pertinent account information, gather up to date demographics, and verify insurance coverage. This position is responsible for recovery of deductible, co-pay, co-insurance, and self-pay balances, and/or recognizing the need for financial counseling, as necessary. They are responsible for ensuring that all required patient signatures are present for treatment, medical records, and insurance processing. They ensure that all necessary documentation is presented to patients, making them aware of all hospital policies and procedures that relate to the admission process and treatment. They work with multiple departments, distributing appropriate information, as necessary. They will be required to participate in performance improvement and CQI activities. Responsible for timely and accurate patient registration processes. 6. Works and navigates in the appropriate EMR systems. 7. Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers. 8. Responsible for interviewing patients in order to gather all pertinent account information, gather up to date demographics, and verify insurance coverage. 9. This position is responsible for recovery of deductible, co-pay, co-insurance, and self-pay balances, and/or recognizing the need for financial counselling, as necessary. 10. They ensure that all necessary documentation is presented to patients, making them aware of all hospital policies and procedures that relate to the admission process and treatment. 11. They work with multiple departments, distributing appropriate information, as necessary. 12. Receive and forward incoming calls to the appropriate staff member or department. 13. Performs according to established performance-improvement policies and procedures. 14. Maintain lobby area to ensure that it is clean and a safe environment for patients and visitors. 15. Oversees scheduling tasks to maintain efficient patient flow. 16. Works closely with the Business office manager to ensure appropriate time allowances and special equipment requests are communicated in a timely manner. 17. Serves as a positive liaison with physicians and their office personnel. (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk "*." Attach Addendum for positions with slightly different roles or work-specific differences as needed. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies. 2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 3. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 4. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes. 5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff. 6. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills. 7. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information. 8. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. 9. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. If Leadership Position - including the following KSAs if applicable: 1. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Reading/writing/math/proper grammar/spelling, which is normally required through the completion of a high school education or equivalent. Prefer 1-2 years of medical experience and/or secretarial experience. Prefer knowledgeable of medical terminology, computerized office systems, third party payer requirements.
