HDR is seeking a strong, experienced individual as Transportation Business Group Manager to lead our team in the Mid-Atlantic (Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland) market. The Transportation Business Group provides professional services in roadway, transit, freight rail, aviation, federal and maritime markets across the area. The Transportation Business Group Manager is responsible for supporting HDR's teams in these markets and leads operations, business development, and overall program growth. In this role, we'll count on you to:
- Develop, implement and maintain effective area business group programs
- Take responsibility for development strategies, new business prospects, technical services, quality, and production methods and standards, all within established goals and objectives of the business group, region and company
- Perform other duties as needed
- Collaborate with Area and regional Operations as well as regional and national transportation leadership
More specific duties include: (1) development of strategic planning and budgeting, (2) oversight of technical project delivery, (3) profitability, (4) quality control and quality delivery, (5) staff development and recruitment, and (6) business development and marketing support. The Transportation Business Group is active in the aviation, transit, freight rail, highway and local roads, and maritime market sectors that include highway/roadway, civil, structures, geotechnical, traffic, hydraulics, strategic communications and public involvement, transportation planning, transportation economics, construction field services, and environmental services to public transportation agencies and private transportation clients. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to grow the business and diversify the client base in alignment with corporate goals and initiatives. Responsibilities also include leading strategic client and project pursuits, serving as Principal in Charge or directly managing key projects, staff administration, and supervising and mentoring staff. This position works cooperatively with local, regional and national leadership and coordinates services with other business lines in the company. Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors in Civil Engineering, Planning or related field required, MS and/or MBA is advantageous.
- PE required.
- Minimum 20 years of experience in the transportation industry.
- Strong leadership and project management skills that demonstrate a positive professional reputation as one who can deliver quality, cost effective projects, including large projects.
- Strong communication and people skills.
- Experience in managing profitable growth; staff development, bookings/sales, earnings and profitability.
- Existing network of transportation clients within the Mid-Atlantic (Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland).
- Proven marketing experience including client development and project wins.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
- A minimum of 10 years experience
- Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
- Demonstrated experience with leading diverse teams
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
- Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, technical directors and marketing managers
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
