What We Do Typically focused on Internal/Employee Communications which provide a variety of information to employees but may also be responsible for external communications for a division or group which focus on brand/product awareness. Duties may include communicating the Company's mission, strategy, policies, and performance, compensation, benefits, and other company initiatives, programs, and policies. Develop external content to support the division and/or products. Develop and distribute print based and digital communications (e.g., corporate policy manuals, internal newsletters, articles, press releases, etc.) Review and edit function-specific documents drafted by subject matter experts to ensure they are written appropriately for the targeted audience and comply with organization style guidelines.

Essential Functions

  • Write/edit and oversee production of internal and /or external communication pieces for various audiences, including executive management, business leaders, managers, and general employee population and external audiences
  • Partner with content owners to translate business or technical jargon into an easily understandable language, drafting and editing new content, working with management for feedback and wording approvals, and sending out the final product.
  • Provide guidance and professional input in the creation of communications efforts and campaigns
  • Provide input on overall design and strategy for Web and email communications
  • Ensure that messages are consistent in both tone and content
  • Assist in the management and ongoing promotion of the online community as a communication, knowledge management and collaboration platform
  • May coordinate business unit town meetings and webcasts

  • Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with extensive knowledge base of industry practices and established policies and procedures
  • Exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments
  • Errors will have significant business and financial impact
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at the senior management level across functional groups and business units

Supervision Received or Extended

  • No formal responsibility for the supervision of others but may provide functional advice or training to less experienced team members
  • Works independently with supervisory consultation

Knowledge and Skills/Technology Used

  • Strong writing/proofing/editing skills. Must have strong writing abilities and experience; must be extremely attentive to detail and be versed in AP style
  • Able to prioritize and execute projects to completion while meeting tight deadlines
  • Project management skills to effectively oversee the work of multiple internal and external resources while ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget guidelines. Work as a collaborator, partner, and guide for our internal customers, working to ensure the best outcomes to meet their needs
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook). Some knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint is helpful, but not critical
  • Must have a general understanding of Web content dissemination and what is possible. Knowledge of Dreamweaver or similar Web design program is helpful, but not critical
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and photo editing preferred
  • General knowledge of benefits plan design is helpful in reviewing and/or drafting benefits materials that translate complex benefits concepts into information that makes sense to the average employee
  • Executive and client engagement: experience working with key executives and/or clients and have the proven ability to professionally meet their communications needs

Typical Education

  • BS/BA in Communications or Journalism

Typical Range of Experience

  • 7-10 years of directly related experience
