The Corporateoffice of SmithGroupis looking for aSenior Project Accountantto join our team. The person hired for this role can reside in any location.

Working with us, you will:



  • Partner with Project Managers in setting up the projects effectively and in managing the project throughout its lifecycle.
  • Be fully immersed in the client contract to be certain everyone has a good understanding of the financial/billing details.
  • Partner with Studio Leaders and Project Managers to maintain, analyze, and enter project budgets and client billing information (including client billing tables) in the project accounting system Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Partner with Studio Leaders and Project Managers to review contract billing terms and prepare client invoices and supporting documentation through the project accounting system.
  • Partner with Project Managers to research and resolve project billing or payment discrepancies with clients.
  • Partner with Project Managers with regards to budgeting and putting together the project plans.
  • Maintain integrity of client contract and billing files, including tracking various contract amendments or modifications.
  • Provide management with supporting documentation related to actual costs, contract terms, budgets and billing information to assist them in analyzing project revenue.
  • Resolve issues associated with the application of client payments.
  • Provide support to studio leaders or project managers on collections.
  • Train or direct the activities of the project accountant.
  • Direct accounts payable regarding payments to consultants.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present management reports.
  • Assist in other accounting areas as requested or assigned.
  • Prepare and participate in the annual audit.



An ideal candidate has:



  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four to six years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (i.e. Microsoft Dynamics).
  • The ability to concisely and definitively explain accounting results and issues to management in response to questions or during regular meetings or reviews.
  • The ability to communicate concisely and accurately via verbal or written means.
  • The ability to present complex issues/data with high level of clarity and impact.
  • Attention to detail and works well in a team environment.
  • The ability to maintain confidential information.

While we may ultimately pay more or less than a posted salary range, at the time of posting the anticipated salary range for this position is $59,000 to $79,000 annually and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus each year.
