Work Schedule
8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.
Primary Purpose of Position
The AutoCAD Technician coordinates and provides technology support for the Facilities Management (FM) departments and FM applications. The primary purpose of this position is to collect thorough building information (architectural, floorplans) and assemble the data in a standard format allowing easier access to project managers and facilities maintenance personnel. This position works closely with planning and space management to ensure that applications are up to date and the most current building information, building floor plans are incorporated/updated into Building Information Systems BIM models. This position surveys buildings for any changes and makes updates appropriately. Additional duties include assisting with GPS and GIS surveys on campus.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Computer Programming, or Bachelor's degree with some computer-related coursework from an appropriately accredited university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

University Preferred Qualifications:

The technician band requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in an area of specialization generally obtained from graduating from a technical school or community college with a degree in computer programming or graduation from a four-year college or university with nine semester hours in programming. Experience in the field of work related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Essential Job Duties
The entry-level AutoCAD Technician is a fast-paced, customer-facing position. The primary purpose of this position is to collect thorough building information (mechanical, architectural, etc.) and assemble the data in a standard format allowing easier access to project managers and facilities maintenance personnel.

This will involve reviewing old drawings, creating new drawings, laser scanning buildings, and collecting building closeouts.

The AutoCAD Technician is also responsible for creating consolidated Mechanical drawings of all UNC Charlotte buildings.

Duties include:

  • Create and update mechanical drawings.
  • Assist Facilities Operations with mechanical equipment inventory and tagging.
  • Complete 3D camera building scans.
  • Collect closeout documentation, and review and attach to equipment.
  • Work with Designers, Engineers, Shop personnel, and project managers to collect and update CAD drawings.
  • Work with PM Manager to coordinate tagging of equipment on mechanical drawings in Archibus, BAS (Building Automation System), GIS (Geographic Information System) and CAD floor-plans.

Other Work Responsibilities

  • Must be able to work in the field.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to routinely walk buildings for updates and changes.
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders.
  • Ability to and willingness to go on top of building roofs.
  • Must not have a fear of heights and tight spaces, and is not afraid of the dark.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.
  • Operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • One year of AutoCAD experience.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MEP, or Revit. Revit experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to interpret engineering drawings and schematics.

  • BIM experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to learn and understand new technologies quickly.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective and efficient comprehension skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications

  • A valid driver's license required for position.
