Basic Function

Sonneborn LLC, an HF Sinclair Brand, is seeking a Sales Manager for specialty chemicals. This position will conduct high-level and complex technical sales & business development assignments for white oil, petrolatum, micro crystalline waxes, natural emollients and specialty products with complete autonomy. The Sales Manager defines, plans and implements long-term sales and business development strategies. This is a home-based position with substantial travel requirements by car or air.

Job Duties

  • Contacts existing and prospective customers, distributors, bulk and packaged goods buyers, and builds business relationships in all levels of the organization
  • Coordinates closely with other Sales, Technical and Business Segment Marketing Managers to achieve the companies' sales and marketing goals and objectives for assigned specialties and white oilsproducts as well as day-to-day sales objectives of the assigned geography and industry
  • Coordinates with key internal stakeholders and participates in cross-functional team activities, special projects and meetings to identify new and specialized products to meet a client's specific needs
  • Responsible for recognizing basic functionality and chemistries to facilitate preliminary product recommendations
  • Responsible for staying abreast of latest key market trends and emerging applications
  • Identifies, defines and assists to develop new or specialized products and markets for specialty and white oil products to grow the business
  • Develops, recommends and implements long-term sales plan and pricing strategies
  • Responsible for maintaining an accurate forecast
  • Responsible for maintaining a complete and accurate opportunity pipeline
  • Responsible for producing call reports and account plans
  • Makes daily pricing recommendations and negotiates sales contracts
  • Works with Chemists, Research and Development, Formulators, Process Engineers, and all levels of customer management to gain product approvals for various end use applications
  • Researches market conditions. Collects and analyzes market data to verify price information, assess competitors, identify other potential sales opportunities, new product needs and additional target markets
  • Assists with crisis management in response to supply interruptions, which may include production, loading, quality or transportation issues
  • Coordinates with various departments and personnel to facilitate timely supply of products and invoicing. This may include quality, transportation, regulatory, credit, transportation, customer service and others
  • Acts as a liaison and consultant to the Segment Marketing group
  • Represents the company at industry functions and association meetings and assists with developing marketing materials and technical bulletins


Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

  • A minimum of 5-10years of account management experience within the petrochemical industry with B2Band new business development sales experience required
  • Strong technical knowledge and experiencerequired
  • Solid understanding of customers, competitors & markets (personal care, pharmaceuticals, plastics & polymers, adhesives, food, etc.), new technologies, global supply/demand dynamics required
  • Experience in technical sales of specialty chemicals and/or white oils preferred

Education

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or other related technical field
  • MBA preferred

  • Able to perform a variety of high-level sales and business development assignments effectively
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products
  • Self-starter with drive and ability to achieve planned objectives
  • Advanced creative, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Strong Crisis management skills: ability to handle situations involving conflicts arising out of products being off specification, short/long term refinery/logistical /human error problems causing product outages, customer complaints, etc.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with others at all levels of an organization in writing or verbally, advanced ability to read and write
  • Ability to perform intermediate level mathematical calculations
  • Ability to create and nurture mutual respect with peers and a positive teamwork environment
  • Ability to perform a variety of high-level, complex assignments related to assigned petroleum product, assigned petroleum product marketing and trade assignments effectively, execute sales opportunities and multi-task
  • Depending upon assignment, the ability to understand the chemical/technical characteristics of specialized petroleum products
  • An understanding of supply and distribution and refining procedures is preferred

  • Home Office based
  • Must resides within 50 miles of a medium to large commercial airport
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Frequent travel, often across broad geography (North American travels - minimum 50%)

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping. Job conditions may require making visual inspections, lifting and/or carrying up to 25lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 25lbs, climbing up to 3ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, with valid state driver's license and proof of insurance, working in confined spaces, and perceiving color differences.
