Responsibilities

  • Surgical First Assistants assist physicians in surgery and may perform a specific surgical task under "professional supervision".
  • Surgical tasks include but are not limited to: opening and closing surgical sites, exposure of the surgical site, harvesting grafts, dissecting tissue, removing tissue, implanting devices, and altering tissues.
  • Perform CST role when not utilized in the First Assistant Role.

Qualifications

  • Current Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or eligible for Certification.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Must be eligible for credentialing through Medical Staff.
  • Previous CST experience prefer two years.
  • Pervious CST-FA experience prefer a minimum of 2 years Cardio-Vascular.
  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist School.
  • Current CST certification.
  • New employees who have completed and can document first assistant training or have maintained a current national First Assistant (FA) certification, may work as a ST/FA following BSA policies and protocols.
