Position Description:

The University of Iowa Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science is seeking faculty for one or two positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher in the tenure track (12-month fiscal appointment).

Responsibilities:





  • Direct collaborative research program in specialty area within the Carver College of Medicine.
  • Sustain/expand federal extramural support and scholarship.
  • Mentor student physician scientists, post-doctoral scholars, and pre-doctoral students enrolled in PTRS.
  • Oversee content expertise within a highly ranked Rehabilitation Science and Physical Therapy Curriculum.
  • Collaborate with medical specialists, physicians, engineers, public health officials, basic scientists, and health science experts within the University and throughout the country through multi-center collaborations.
  • Serve on selected committees within the department, college, university, and nation.




The Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science Department in the Carver College of Medicine offers a nationally ranked Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree (#2) and a highly successful Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Rehabilitation Science. The academic programs attract students from medicine, exercise physiology, engineering, physical therapy, psychology, geriatrics, neuroscience, biosciences, and the health sciences. Core research facilities are state of the art within the College of Medicine. A funded CTSA supports translational work throughout the college. The Carver College of Medicine and UI Health Care is nationally ranked as one of "America's Best Hospitals." Iowa City is a vibrant community with a long-standing commitment to the arts, sciences, and education.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.



Education Requirement:


  • PhD degree with a distinguished level of accomplishment in one or more areas related to 1) Biomechanics/Neuro-musculoskeletal plasticity/ Human Performance with expertise in human movement analysis; 2) Human Health and Physiology with a focus on Pain, Aging, Metabolism, Diabetes, and/or Cognitive Function.


Required Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated experience in developing controlled clinical trials.
  • Excellent track record of funding.
  • Excellent publication record in high impact journals.
  • Excellent post-doctoral training experience with established networks in the field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Current support for multi-year research (NIH: R00, R01, or other Federal Support).
  • Current sustainable support for collaborative projects in the field.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
