POSITION TITLE: Clerk, Library Services
STATUS:Part Time
DEPARTMENT: Library
DIVISION: Academic Affairs
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt
UNION: TOSSC
REPORTS TO: Department Chair, Library
PLACEMENT: Grade 103
HIRING RANGE: $18.14 - $19.23 hourly

POSITION SUMMARY

This position staffs the library's public service desks as well as virtual service points and is responsible for facilitating access to library materials and services. This includes assisting library users, maintaining library circulation and patron records and promoting library resources and services. This position requires a detail-oriented, self-starter who takes initiative and enjoys relating to a diverse population of library users in a fast-paced work environment with multiple interruptions.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrate exemplary customer service, communication and interpersonal skills by understanding and applying the college's policies and procedures. Able to assist library users in a professional manner in-person and online.
2. Uphold and interpret library procedures to library users.
3. Determine library user needs; check on the availability of library materials; assist library users in locating library materials and refer library users to librarians as needed; aid library users requiring technical assistance with library equipment.
4. Facilitate access to library materials and services using new and existing technologies.
5. Perform access services related duties such as: maintain course and textbook reserves, check-out/in library and institutional partners' materials.
6. Assist with the collection, compilation, and dissemination of statistics related to library collections and services.
7. Maintain a neat appearance of all public use areas to include picking up and shelving materials as needed.
8. Monitor usage of library spaces.
9. Maintain library inventory by shelving library materials, shelf reading, shifting library materials, and assisting with collection management activities. Report on lost, missing, or damaged materials.
10. Assists with library marketing initiatives, including creating displays
11. Provide recommendations to enhance and improve library services by participating in professional development opportunities and other trainings related to library services and collections.
12. Open/close the library as needed.
13. Other projects and duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Successful customer service experience in a library environment.
3. Extensive personal computer skills and a thorough knowledge of several software applications including Microsoft Office Suite for Windows and/or Mac, E-mail, and Internet.
4. Working knowledge of office equipment such as multi-line digital phone system, scanner and copy machines; and library security system equipment and related software.
5. Ability to work under minimal supervision by being self-motivated/self-disciplined.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability and willingness to work cooperatively with a diverse population in a team-based work environment.
7. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
8. Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Academic library experience or an LTA certificate.
2. Knowledge of automated library systems and additional computer applications.
3. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
4. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

WORK SCHEDULE
1. This position is part of a Saturday rotation. A typical work week is 20 hours plus 7.5 hours every other Saturday during the academic semester.
2. Hours subject to change during summer, breaks, and as needed for office coverage.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Normal office physical demands.
2. Ability to lift and transport 70 pounds including moving book trucks, lifting and physical processing of materials.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual office environment.
2. Ability to access computer screens and electronic records in software packages currently used by the library and college with the ability to input data to the correct systems.
