Overview The Public Service Department is seeking a candidate for Chair of the Vermont Telecommunication Relay Service Advisory Council. It's important to note that this position is a volunteer role. Description The VTRS Advisory Council Chair fulfills the following duties pursuant to 30 V.S.A. * 218a: (2)(A) The Council shall elect from among its members a chair and vice chair. Meetings shall be convened at the call of the Chair or a majority of the members of the Council. The Council shall meet not more than six times a year. (3) The Council shall advise the Department of Public Service and the contractor for telecommunications relay services on all matters concerning the implementation and administration of the State's telecommunications relay service, including the telecommunications equipment grant program established pursuant to subsection (e) of this section. Compensation This position is a volunteer role. However, there may be eligibility to receive an annual stipend as outlined by 30 V.S.A. * 218a: (B) The members of the Council who are not officers or employees of the State shall receive per diem compensation and expense reimbursement in amounts authorized by 32 V.S.A. * 1010(b). The costs of the compensation and reimbursement and any other necessary administrative costs shall be included within the contract entered into under subsection (c) of this section. Preferred Qualifications While there are no formal requirements for the Chair or member positions, we encourage individuals with the following qualifications and experience to apply: You must be a Vermont resident Knowledge and experience with Telecommunications Relay Services Be familiar with or use of one or more of the Relay Services outlined in 30 V.S.A. * 218a. An advocate on behalf of individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard-of-Hearing, have speech limitations, or experience physical disabilities that affect their ability to use standard telephone or communication equipment.
