Purpose of Position
Working directly with the Chair of the School of Nursing, the Director is entrusted with the overall responsibility of the Nurse Anesthesia Program ( NAP), including program administration, faculty and curricular leadership, and professional development and university service activities.
The Director is responsible for working collaboratively to orient and mentor clinical faculty while mentoring and advising students matriculating through the program.

The Director has the leadership authority and accountability for the organization and administration of the NAP program. The Program Director participates in institutional planning, curriculum design and review, and other appropriate governance roles within the framework of the College of Health and Human Services and the School of Nursing. As an educational leader, the Program Director works collaboratively with the School of Nursing Chair to provide support for viability, quality, legal and professional compliance of the specialty.
Primary Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assume leadership responsibility and accountability for program administration.
  • Maintain compliance with the Standards for Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs-Practice Doctorate (with the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs); including Self Study and Annual Progress Reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with the Standards for Accreditation of Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs (with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education-CCNE); including Self Study and Continuous Improvement Progress Reporting.
  • Assist in preparation and administration of program budget.
  • Manage curriculum development and review.
  • Participate in program, school, college and university governance.
  • Implement an evaluation plan for continuous self-assessment of the Program consistent with the Standards for Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs-Practice Doctorate.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that govern student recruitment, selection, evaluation, probation and/or dismissal.
  • Negotiates affiliation agreements with clinical sites in consultation with the NKU Office of Legal Affairs and General Counsel.
  • Provide and implement strategies to facilitate growth of the program.
  • Supervises and monitors activities of faculty both didactic and clinical.
  • Prepares necessary reports to maintain accreditation of the program.
  • Student advising, mentoring and teaching.
  • Represent NKU NAP within the community of interest.
  • Demonstrate clinical competency.


Clinical Director Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all clinical site credentialing and orientation.
  • Work with Clinical Coordinators and didactic faculty to maintain excellence in clinical education while developing an environment conducive to learning.
  • Maintain and report clinical site evaluation criteria for program outcomes.
  • Assist with course coordination of all clinical practica.
  • Maintain and distribute all student clinical rotation schedules.
  • Maintain and monitor all student clinical time commitment.
  • Serve as Typhon Administrator managing all clinical data.
  • Visit, at least annually, all clinical sites if required. All visits must be documented showing communication with the Clinical Coordinator or other designee at site.

Qualifications
Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission of NKU, College of Health & Human Services, the School of Nursing, and NAP.
  • Experientially qualified to lead the NAP program.
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain collegial relationships with internal and external team members.
  • Effective supervisory skills including performance management and hiring.
  • Advanced scholarship and evidence-based practice expertise.
  • Doctoral degree with current knowledge, competence and certification or recertification by the NBCRNA as a CRNA with a current, active, unencumbered APRN license to practice in Kentucky. Doctorate must be from an accredited institution recognized by the US Secretary of Education at the time the degree was conferred.
  • Formal education in curriculum, evaluation, and instruction.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues that influence the program and nurse anesthesia by engaging in professional development.
  • Active engagement in professional organizations.
  • Prior experience in the leadership and accreditation of a nurse anesthesia program.
  • Prior graduate teaching experience in a nurse anesthesia program.
  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience.
