Responsibilities

NV5 is seeking a full-time Senior Ecologist for our Alpharetta, GA office. This position will:

    Lead field and reporting efforts for Department of Transportation (DOT) projects
  • Compile relevant reports and permits for various clients
  • Conduct biological monitoring (quantitative and qualitative) and prepare detailed reports for projects.
  • Perform field research to assess the health and composition of wetland ecosystems.
  • Develop and implement restoration plans, including planting native species, controlling invasive species, and restoring natural water flows.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and conservationists to design and refine effective restoration strategies.
  • Monitor and analyze the success of restoration projects using scientific methods and advanced technologies.
  • Carry out land stewardship activities to support ecological goals and maintain project sites.
  • Conduct biological studies to support project development and implementation.
  • Engage with local communities, stakeholders, and policymakers to promote wetland conservation and restoration efforts.
  • Contribute to restoration plans by integrating biological considerations and best practices.
  • Review potential project sites with team members, identifying biological opportunities and constraints for land management.
  • Prepare scientific reports, proposals, and presentations to communicate findings and advocate for wetland conservation.
  • Assist in creating biological monitoring and research projects, technical specifications, and management plans as needed.
  • Oversee consultants preparing specialized biological resource documentation and contractors implementing land stewardship activities.
  • Stay current with research and advancements in wetland ecology and restoration techniques.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Botany, Wildlife Science, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of professional experience in biological surveying, reporting, monitoring, land management, or related areas.
  • Proven ability to work independently, particularly in field settings, including remote locations.
  • Strong experience in biological identification and monitoring of woody and herbaceous vegetation.
  • Hands-on experience with species-specific field surveys, wetland delineation, and habitat mapping.
  • Knowledge of restoration practices such as invasive species management, native planting, and hydrological restoration.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical details clearly.
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.

Work environment and physical demands of this position

  • This position will be subject to indoor and outside environmental conditions, including weather conditions such as wet and /or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments.
  • Work will primarily be in the field involving long term standing and frequent walking as well as include common hazards at construction and project sites.
  • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 10-12 hours a day on occasion.
  • Must have the ability to see, smell, hear, talk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and twist, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, sit, stand, and walk.
  • Weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
  • Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
