SUMMARY:

Goldbelt Professional Services, LLC is seeking a Health Communication/Technical Writer to work within the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This position will provide professional support for the Program Development and Strategy Unit (PDSU). This work will be performed at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Roybal Campus in Atlanta, GA. The CDC is the nation's premier health promotion, prevention, and preparedness agency. The Health Communications/Technical Writer will report to Goldbelt Professional Services leadership to ensure the execution of timely, high-quality deliverables for the client.

The contractor will assist in the development and execution of effective health communication strategies, working closely with the divisions responsible for outbreak response, vaccine development, and disease control. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal teams to enhance communication processes, ensure compliance with policy directives, and support the operational efficiency of the NCIRD divisions. The role requires a professional who is adept at both technical and health communications, capable of managing complex projects with short deadlines, and facilitating communication initiatives in line with CDC's mission.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide writing/editing technical support for leadership messages, Q and As, fact sheets, PowerPoints, emails, newsletters and manuscripts.
  • Provide communication support in plan language and healthy literacy writing/editing support for clear, concise, organized and appropriate for intended audiences.
  • Help develop messaging aligning office activities to center goals and leadership priorities.
  • Coordinate and solicit content and updates from different entities such as Divisions, OD offices, work groups and other agency stakeholders.
  • Provide project management support for ISD communication activities and assist in the development, maintenance and execution of project plans, including a weekly communications plan.
  • Manage key internal communication channels such as SharePoint, Teams and other tools.
  • Ensure language is clear and consistent across channels and aligns with CDC requirements.
  • Work with ISD Communication to support evaluations of communication tactics and strategies to provide timely and credible recommendations for improving existing practices and meeting center communication needs.
  • Review and assess communication agency and center internal communication data and provide timely and credible recommendations.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Possesses strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Experience collaborating with leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Public health communication skills, including ability to support development and packaging of toolkits, guidance, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical language to non-expert audiences, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to quickly synthesize and communicate information in a concise, digestible way.
  • Experience liaising across teams with varying expertise and skill sets.
  • Advanced use of Adobe and Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, SharePoint).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work well independently, be solution-oriented, motivated, and committed to customer and company success.
  • Able to collaborate with internal CDC partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Communications, Public Health, English or related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in health communication or a related field.
  • Proven experience in crisis communication, especially in the public health sector.
  • Familiarity with CDC's operations, public health programs, and regulatory guideline.
  • Highly detailed and organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office Tools.
  • Experience with current Section 508 Compliance Requirements and Clear Communication Index.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CDC Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with the CDC is highly desired to understand the culture and environment.
  • Experience with Health Communications.
  • 3+ years with a MA/MS degree in English, Health Education, Public Health or related field.
