The Civil Construction Equipment Operator will operate and maintain heavy, motorized equipment used in moving earth, constructing structures and tower erection. The construction sites are designed with pads, towers, antenna, shelters, solar, power systems, and sensitive electronic components. The ideal candidate will be familiar with reading construction drawings, can layout a construction site, and have a safety operator driving record. They must be able to excavate, trench, and move materials safely in confined areas of operation, shooting grade with laser level equipment, and a strong ability of using hand tools and power tools. This role requires knowledge of advanced construction principles and use of construction equipment under limited supervision. The ideal candidate will be capable of working with minimal oversight but willing to follow directions and closely adhere to construction industry safety standards. The positions are located outdoors, and the selected candidates will be expected to work under all types of weather conditions.
Operating Equipment
- Operates one or more types of various heavy construction equipment including crane, bulldozer, backhoe, rock crusher, front-end loader, skid steer, motor grader, pneumatic roller, scraper, tractor, and trenching machine.
- Performs inspection of machinery in accordance with company guidelines and manufacturers specifications.
- Operate all equipment in accordance with operating safety rules and regulations.
- Conduct daily inspections of the equipment at the end of the shift and report any problems or damage to management.
- Safely maneuver machinery/equipment in tight quarters, around people, utilities, and communication towers.
- Observe and report equipment or mechanical failures immediately.

Driving
- Load and unload cargo
- Deliver materials and equipment to and from job sites
- Operate all company vehicles in accordance with local laws/regulations in a safe and courteous manner
- Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle at the end of the shift and report any problems or damage to management
- Keep assigned vehicles clean and orderly
- Comply with all DOT and in-house regulations and rules
- Complete a daily truck log and submit reports of mileage covered at EOD
- Observe and report equipment or mechanical failures immediately

General Labor
- Load, unload and move materials around the worksite
- Perform setup tasks at job site
- Assist in the installation of site fencing, conduit, and foundations
- Operate equipment such as laser levels, pavement breakers, jackhammers, earth tampers, concrete, mortar and plaster mixers and skid steers as necessary
- Utilize both power and hand tools as needed for digging, trenching, backfilling, and compacting materials
- Participate in demolitions
- Ensure worksite is organized and free of clutter, debris, and garbage

Safety
- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety program
- Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or endanger the wellbeing of others
- Cooperate with Safety personnel, supervisors, and managers to ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company's Safety policies.

- Participate as a vital crew member and contribute towards the success of the project and the organization
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas
- Collaborate with other company personnel to meet organizational deadlines and objectives
- Complete daily reports and timecards and support the construction manager

Education |
- High school diploma/GED preferred
|
Experience |
- 2+ years equipment operating experience required
|
Licenses/ Certification/ Registration |
- Current driver's license required (Commercial driver's license preferred)
- No serious tickets or accidents in last 3 years
- No DWI/DUI in last 5 years
|
Special knowledge, skills, & abilities |
- Understanding of basic mechanical terms and tools.
- Understanding and use of non-verbal commands for heavy equipment operation
- Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies.
- The ability to use hand tools, power tools and industry test equipment.
- Work schedule will require open availability including weekends, holidays and overnights as determined by the needs of the business; must be flexible
- Must be able to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment, post-offer background check and drug test
