Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Research Center Manager. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) and consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

Responsibilities

As a Research Center Manager, you will lead the development of the Research & Information team in the US and liaise with other Managers to contribute to the growth and evolution of the service. You will be responsible for:

  • Adopting a program of continuous improvement to ensure the efficient delivery and use of resources.
  • Supporting the adoption, use and promotion of products, new technology and systems.
  • Cultivating strong relationships with internal stakeholders and attorneys across the firm
  • Leading the evolution of the research team to meet the changing needs of the business.
  • Negotiating, influencing, and managing conflicts to ensure the appropriate deployment of Research staff and resources.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and championing policies across the US Practice.
  • Responsible for collaborating with other support teams to provide our attorneys with a seamless service.
  • Initiation, contribution and implementation of projects to improve and develop the service.

Management responsibilities include:

  • Forecasting headcount needs and influencing management in the growth and deployment of Research staff to support attorneys.
  • Recruiting, training and developing staff, including undertaking regular appraisals and salary reviews.
  • Ensuring staff are developed and trained to deliver an exemplary service.
  • Overseeing training programs to ensure a return on our investment in online products and systems.
  • Providing expert advice on the use of legal sources to meet the firm's objectives.
  • Encouraging and leading the team to engage and influence attorneys on the adoption and use of new technologies.

Relationship management:

  • The Research Manager must a credible, capable professional, able to build and maintain productive relationships with the team, attorneys and peers.
  • The Research Manager will work closely with peers within R&I and colleagues within Innovation to promote and champion the contribution of the Research function.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in library/information science (from ALA accredited school) required.
  • At least 10 years' management experience in a similar organization.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Ability to identify and implement change.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and technical skills in the use of Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to build and develop relationships and command credibility at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to lead and foster a positive working environment.
  • A strategic, creative thinker who can both collaborate and influence and deliver to deadlines.
  • Strong legal research and database skills across all practices and proficiency with a variety of legal databases.
  • Familiarity with MS Office, interest and confident in using new technology.
  • Excellent all round communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Resourceful, creative and solutions orientated.
  • Resilient and adaptable with a flexible approach to work.
  • Possesses team orientation at all levels.
  • Enthusiasm and dedication to providing a quality service to clients.
  • Always demonstrates a professional standard of behavior; and
  • Treats colleagues and clients with respect and courtesy.
  • Proven record of working in a collaborative environment.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is:

  • California Major Markets* $101,000.00 - $116,000.00
  • New York City $116,000.00 - $138,000.00
  • National $91,000.00 - $116,000.00

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
