Columbia University in the City of New York: Arts and Sciences Core - Academic: Department of History Location 01 Open Date Dec 04, 2024 Salary Range or Pay Grade Associate professor: $110K-$150K, Full professor: $150K-$190K Description The Department of History at Columbia University invites applications and nominations for a scholar to fill the Edward Said Professorship of Modern Arab Studies and Literature. We seek to hire a distinguished teacher and scholar in the field of modern history of the Middle East, with a focus on the Arab world. The appointment will be at the rank of tenured associate or full professor. Teaching responsibilities will include graduate and undergraduate courses and involvement in Columbia's Core Curriculum. The successful applicant will show evidence of innovative scholarship and achievement in teaching and advising. Applications should include a letter of interest, CV, research statement, and the names of three potential references, who may be asked to provide a letter at a later date. Applications received by February 1, 2025, will receive full consideration by the search committee. The appointment will begin July 1, 2025, pending tenure review. Qualifications PhD required at the time of appointment. Candidates should demonstrate scholarly promise and achievement and excellence in teaching. Candidates for tenured associate or full professor should be widely recognized for their distinction and professional accomplishment. Finalists will meet the current departmental needs for coverage in selected subfields.
