Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
The Program Director is responsible for programmatic and administrative support of the
NRT: Next Generation Technology and Talent Driven by Environmental Sustainability Program. They will be the primary point of contact for a wide range of students, faculty, and outside partners at both North Carolina A&T State University (
NCA&T) and Purdue University seeking to engage with the program, and coordinate student-centered educational and career-development activities.
The Program Director is responsible for developing new program policies and procedures related to student funding and awards, special projects, and program evaluation. The director will also lead the promotion of the program both within and outside the
NCA&T/Purdue partnership.
Answering to and working with the Program PIs at both institutions, the Director will monitor budgets and generate reports for the funding agencies. Since this is a new program with an experimental approach to delivering innovative graduate education between two research universities, the director must be willing to try new things, pivot as the situation demands, and facilitate communication and collaboration between these institutions. |

This National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (
NRT) award to Purdue University and North Carolina Agricultural and Technological State University (NC A&T) will enable a commerce system that practices innovation for environmental sustainability. The project anticipates training 22
NRT-funded trainees and approximately 70 additional graduate students at both master's and doctoral degree levels. Fields of study include environmental and ecological engineering, materials engineering, civil engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, and architectural engineering. The
NRT training and research outcomes will contribute significantly to a diverse
STEM workforce, with particular emphasis on recruiting and mentoring African-American and women doctoral students in engineering. |
