THE POSITION
-
The Engineering, Traffic and Survey (ETS) Department of Land Use & Transportation is recruiting for the position of Traffic Signal & Lighting Technician. This role is responsible for completing regular maintenance, repairs, and emergency response efforts on the County's traffic signal, street lighting, and intelligent transportation system infrastructure. This role requires knowledge of electrical codes, requirements, and experience in the construction and operation of traffic signals, street lighting, and communications systems. Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:
- completing emergency repairs and non-emergency work assignments
- completing preventative maintenance tasks including documentation of results and record keeping
- completing inspections of contractor's work on traffic signals and electrical systems
- troubleshooting and fixing traffic signal, detection and communication system problems
- completing utility locates.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be familiar with national electrical codes and requirements and Oregon DOT (ODOT) specifications and standards for traffic signal, street lighting, and intelligent transportation systems. They will have experience working with traffic signal cabinets and traffic signal controllers and have extensive knowledge in the construction, operation, and troubleshooting of traffic signal, street lighting, and intelligent transportation systems. They will also have strong organization and communication skills and be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public, coworkers, and/or vendors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
Education and Experience:
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED; AND
- One (1) year of work experience in control systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and/or traffic signal and lighting systems maintenance, repair, and replacement.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
- Must possess a State of Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) license or higher.
- Must be able to obtain an International Municipal Signal Association Signals Certificate Level 1 within one (1) year of appointment.
- Must be able to lift 50 Lbs.
- Must be able to drive/work at night and inclement weather.
- Must be able to work on a ladder and in an aerial bucket truck.
