GENERAL SUMMARY: The intern will work full-time with the Policy Team, assisting the team in evaluating state and federal health policy issues for the system. Under supervision, the intern will review proposed state and federal laws and regulations, conduct analyses, and write summaries, coordinate with subject matter experts to obtain their feedback, and draft and edit deliverables for stakeholders. The intern will have the opportunity to contribute to policy analyses on a variety of issues, such as healthcare reimbursement across multiple provider types, the 340B Drug Discount Program, healthcare workforce issues, Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, public health, health equity, the social determinants of health, and additional key federal, state, and local issues that may arise during the internship. The intern will actively participate in staff meetings, sit in on key health system policy meetings, and learn how to conduct policy work for a health system that includes a health plan, and balances differing perspectives of providers and a health insurer. The Policy Team will connect the intern to Henry Ford Health's Government Affairs team, including the Health Alliance Plan (HAP), and the intern will have an opportunity to learn how policy analysis is translated into advocacy. The intern will be responsible for drafting a longform policy brief on a key policy issue that is relevant to Henry Ford Health, as well as conduct a presentation on this topic. At the end of the internship, the intern should be able to point to key deliverables or initiatives to which they contributed and have built connections across Henry Ford Health.
