About the Job

The candidate will conduct research for the University of Minnesota Plant Metabolomics laboratory working on identifying components plant extracts.

(90%) Endophyte Detection

  • The candidate will help design and implement laboratory assays of endophytes present in monocotyledonous species.
  • This will include selection of appropriate strategies based on current published standards for such measurement techniques, the assembly of the needed apparatus, and the design and implementation of assay protocols in our laboratory.
  • The assays will be conducted as part of a team of researchers and so the candidate will be expected to work with and consult with other team members in the selection and design of the assays and to assist others in learning how to perform the assays independently.

(10%) Leadership and Mentoring

  • The candidate will attend and participate in regular group lab meetings.
  • The candidate will also be expected to supervise and mentor undergraduate researchers and graduate student researchers as needed.

**This position will be required to be in the Twin Cities full time and in person. This position is for a 100% time, 12 month appointment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in plant science or related discipline at time of appointment.
  • Experience conducting phytochemical extraction and structural analysis.
  • Experience with laboratory and field experimental design, along with data collection and statistical analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating QExactive quadrupole-Orbitrap hybrid HRMS and Ultimate 3000 UHPLCs for metabolomics analysis
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with different perspectives.
  • Experience using quantitative PCR.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $61,000.00 - $65,000.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience
