Job Summary

The Nursing Shared Governance (NSG) Project Manager supports the development, implementation, and sustainability of shared governance operations across UCSF Health Nursing. The Project Manager will collaborate with nursing leaders and other stakeholders to create standard work to support a successful shared governance model. Utilizing project management knowledge, framework, and methodologies, the Project Manager will work with key leaders to meet established deliverables through planning, scheduling, communicating, and coordinating shared governance meetings, escalations, and action items. Additional support includes ensuring a transparent, organized, and easily accessible council repository where documents, minutes, action items, and other documents can be stored and accessed. The standard work includes the creation and use of standard templates for agendas, minutes, and action item tracking. Identifies risks and effectively communicates them to NSG leaders.

Utilize your expertise in project management to support a shared decision governance structure across Nursing in our health system. The Nursing Shared Governance Project Manager will:

  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to identify, prioritize, and implement strategic plans for enhancing the Nursing shared governance structure.
  • Lead the use of standard processes, templates, and approaches to shared governance operations
  • Participate in council meetings as needed and explore areas to improve systems through assessing opportunities for creating a more effective, efficient, and valued process.
  • Support the Nursing Shared Governance leadership teams' continuous improvement by designing, implementing, and refining systems and processes that support shared governance efforts.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and present data to inform structure and process improvement opportunities.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $84,400 - 180,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Center for Nursing Excellence and Innovation supports UCSF Health Nursing Services and has four main divisions: Nursing Professional Development, Nursing Quality and Analytics, Nursing Clinical Practice and Research, and Nursing Continuous Improvement and Affiliate Relations. The Professional Development team includes Nursing Professional Development Specialists who oversee the training and education needs of the Department of Nursing. The Nursing Clinical Practice and Research team includes Clinical Nurse Specialists and Advanced Practice Specialists, who oversee evidence-based practice standards that optimize the quality and safety of patient outcomes. The Research & Scholarship team includes Nurse Scientists and Scholarship Development Specialists and who oversee the infrastructure for clinical inquiry, evidence-based practice, research, and innovation. The Nursing Quality Analytics team oversees data production, dissemination, and analytics. The Nursing Continuous Improvement and Affiliate Relations team oversees continuous improvement processes and nursing quality with affiliate organizations. Center for Nursing Excellence Institute (CNEI) is dedicated to improving nursing roles and functions for the Enterprise through Shared Governance and structure and the development of nursing leaders. The Shared Governance structure includes several councils that represent the key priority areas within Nursing.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • 3 years experience of project management and/or equivalent relevant experience
  • Project management certification from a reputable organization such as PMP, CSM or ACP to include a qualifying exam and/or quality assurance processes like Six Sigma or Lean or equivalent project management experience required.
  • Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Effective skill at tracking effort and project progress.
  • Experience analyzing projects with broad impact. Ability to manage project progress within time and budget constraints.
  • Working knowledge of initiatives and an understanding of the impact on the organization of such initiatives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated organization and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated effective writing skills. Knowledge of all aspects of communications.
  • Demonstrated competency in selecting and implementing project management methods and techniques.
  • Leadership ability. Effective problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to put forth persuasive arguments.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Project Management, or equivalent.

License/Certification


  • Project management certification from a reputable organization such as PMP, CSM or ACP to include a qualifying exam and/or quality assurance processes like Six Sigma or Lean or equivalent project management experience required.
