Responsibilities

The purpose of the Senior Business Continuity Planner is to support and enhance the Credit Union's resilience by serving as a critical resource for all aspects of Business Continuity Management. This role ensures seamless planning and execution of operational facets to mitigate the impact of business disruptions. The Senior Business Continuity Planner provides leadership in developing, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining recovery strategies, contingency plans, and response processes across all business units to safeguard the organization's operations, facilities, technology, and personnel. This position actively engages in risk assessments, business impact analyses, plan documentation, and test or simiulation exercises while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Business Continuity Planning: Develop, implement, and maintain Business Continuity Plans (BCPs), including specialized plans for pandemic responses, cyber data breaches, and crisis communications, tailored to ensure organizational readiness.
* Risk and Impact Analysis: Conduct and document comprehensive risk assessments and Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) to identify critical operations, evaluate risks, and define recovery priorities.
* Recovery Strategies: Collaborate with business units and IT teams to design and document effective recovery strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory standards (e.g., FFIEC, ISO 22301).
* Plan Coordination and Oversight: Coordinate the development, execution, and continuous improvement of business unit recovery plans, integrating vendor and third-party risk considerations.
* Exercises and Testing: Plan, conduct, and evaluate scenario-based exercises, including functional, tabletop, and full-scale simulations, to validate the effectiveness of recovery strategies and emergency response capabilities.
* Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver engaging training programs, both in-person and digital, to ensure employee preparedness and integration of business continuity into organizational culture. The position also assists in developing and maintaining business continuity policies and procedures.
* Emerging Risks: Monitor and assess emerging threats, such as climate change, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain disruptions, to proactively refine continuity strategies.
* Technology Coordination: Oversee the execution and periodic testing of technology recovery plans, collaborating closely with IT and infrastructure teams to address gaps and ensure seamless integration.
* Incident Response Coordination: Serve as the primary coordinator for non-technology Business Continuity incidents, ensuring effective command and control, facilitating communications, tracking incident progression, and supporting recovery efforts during disruption events.
* Compliance and Audits: Prepare for and support internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
* Reporting and Metrics: Analyze exercise outcomes and operational disruptions, tracking key metrics to identify trends and recommend process improvements.
* Administration: Supports the administration of business continuity planning and notification tools and may lead incident management teams.

SKILLS

* Knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to business continuity (e.g., FFIEC, ISO 22301)
* Familiarity with fundamental IT concepts, infrastructure and data center technologies
* Proficiency with business continuity planning tools and software
* Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize tasks
* Familiarity with PCs and applicable software
* Familiarity with credit union operations or financial services industry preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
* Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
* Visually able to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading
* Ability to sit for extended time periods
* Sufficient manual skill for operation of PC keyboard and other standard office equipment
* Ability to travel, including occasional overnight travel
* Ability to exert minimum amounts of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects

Certifications

Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) certification from DRI and Certified Functional Business Continuity Professional (CFBC) certification from DRI
