The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 2010. Its mission is to fund research that will provide patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence-based information needed to make better-informed healthcare decisions. Position Summary

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is offering a Summer Internship to a qualified candidate who will support the Planning and Evaluation team. This paid internship is a full time, temporary employment opportunity averaging 40 hours per week for a postgraduate student or PhD candidate. PCORI does not provide housing for out-of-town residents. All applicants must be eligible to work in the US and located in the US. Pay Range and Employment Status:

Interns shall be classified as temporary employees who are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the workforce, or to assist in the completion of a specific project and who are temporarily scheduled to work for a limited duration. Employment beyond any initially stated period does not in any way imply a change in employment status. Temporary workers are not eligible for PCORI benefits.

Current master's level and above students will be paid $20.00 per hour.

The Planning and Evaluation department is seeking an intern who will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in a project that contributes to the development of learning and evaluation plans to answer important questions about PCORI's progress and success in enhancing the culture and capacity for patient-centered CER.
  • Gain exposure to conduct of clinical research, health research funders in the US, and current evidence about assessing aspects of culture and capacity for the generation and use of health research evidence
  • Build skills in literature searching, the distillation of information into summaries of findings, and the development of learning and evaluation plans.

Required Skills

The Planning and Evaluation team is seeking an intern that will meet the following requirements:

* Background in research methods and/or evaluation

* Familiarity with library resources (e.g., PubMed) and literature searches

* Experience with literature searching and synthesis

* Ability to gather information from multiple sources and synthesize into concise and clearly written documents

* Highly proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word

* Project management experience

Required Experience

Ideal candidates will be pursuing their postgraduate education in one of the following areas: Health, science, or research-related field; background in evaluation, business, health services research, sociology, public health, public policy, psychology, social science, public administration, non-profit management, education or other related field
