Shop Assistant $28.84/hour DOE

The Shop Assistant reports directly to the Hangar Manager and aids in maintaining a clean, safe and organized work environment in the Hangar. This position is also responsible for maintaining aircrew life support equipment (ALSE). Under the oversight of the Part 133 Chief Pilot, the Shop Assistant also manages ALSE inventory, shipping, receiving and ordering as required. This includes maintaining the REACH Helmet Control Program and the Fire Rescue ALSE as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining clean, orderly, and safe work environment in the hangar as directed.
  • Maintains and organizes shop supplies and expendables used in daily operations
  • Maintains hangar tool calibration per company policies.
  • Orders and maintains hangar HAZMAT inventory per company policies.
  • Maintains an accurate chemical inventory in Mapistry for the McClellan Facility.
  • Completes base chemical audits as directed.
  • Ensures all chemical storage and disposal meets both local and state laws
  • Verifies on a weekly basis expiration date and disposes of expired items
  • Acts as support for mechanics when parts and additional maintenance resources are required.
  • Maintain stock levels of Flight Suits and Helmets to include minor repairs
  • Maintains Night vision goggles for MCC Inventory and Aviation Training
  • Assist onboarding of new flight crews during Academy measuring for appropriate sizing of helmets and flight suits per Helmet Control SOP.
  • Supports all REACH Bases/Departments with professionalism.
  • Works on special projects as required.
  • Assist Part 133 Chief Pilot with managing and maintaining the Helmet Control Program and Part 133 equipment
    • Manages ALSE inventory, ordering, issuing equipment and coordinating inspections and repair

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Strong computer-based skills for managing inventories
  • Familiar with OSHA and MSDS standards and procedures preferred.
  • Interest in a career in aviation or enrolled in A&P Certificate Program strongly preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals
  • Familiar with standard aviation/mechanical concepts, practices and procedures preferred
  • Valid CA Driver's License required. May occasionally travel to other REACH bases to deliver parts or tooling.
  • Strong work ethic and initiative with an ability to work a flexible schedule as required
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

  • Must be acceptable in accordance with the FAA drug and alcohol testing program
  • Utilize visual acuity to read technical information, use hands to finger, handle, feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Perform activities requiring a moderate amount of standing, sitting, and walking.
  • Capable of lifting 50lbs.

Work Environment: Entails exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions, may be exposed to loud aircraft noise, fumes, gasses, odors, dust particles and mechanical/electrical and chemical hazards.
