The Sr. Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll tax compliance and ensuring accurate and timely tax reporting and remittance. This role requires a highly organized individual with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and extensive knowledge of U.S., Canadian, and Caribbean payroll tax regulations. In addition, this individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, updating and monitoring a standard set of SOPs to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data related to the payroll tax function, the protection of Company assets, the privacy of employee data and proper internal controls are in place. Because this role involves access to confidential financial information, the Company has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and to provide similar protections for its clients and potential investments." CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- Lead the end-to-end payroll tax process to ensure best in class processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Oversee relationships with Ceridian and Equifax as third-party providers to ensure accurate and timely tax deposits and filings across all jurisdictions in the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean.
- Responsible for compliance with Canadian federal and provincial returns including Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan, Employer Health Tax and other deductions.
- Manage the resolution of payroll tax issues, including discrepancies, notices, tracers, and amendments.
- Conduct multi-state/province payroll tax registration, setup, and maintenance. Including Power of Attorney requirements.
- Perform Monthly/Quarterly/Annual reconciliations and analysis of filings (Includes W-2s, 940, 941s, T-4s, RL-1s, etc.)
- Prepare and validate amendment filings as well as prepare and file tax returns outside of vendor scope.
- Establish metrics to identify trends and areas of improvement as well as opportunities for cost savings.
- Provide budgeting support with employment tax projections, including state unemployment tax projections, and bonus/stock tax forecasting.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and advise on the necessary adjustments to payroll processes.
- Provide guidance to payroll team members to proactively monitor internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely tax filing & reporting to government authorities. Ensure all tax rules related to payroll payments as well as noncash and cash fringe benefits. This includes taxing and reporting of regular pay, bonus pay, car usage, plane usage, etc.
- Partner with HR and Finance teams to ensure alignment on tax practices and changes.
- Work with external auditors and tax consultants as needed.
- Develop and maintain payroll tax policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement in payroll tax processes.
- Assist with payroll system implementations, upgrades, and maintenance as they relate to tax compliance.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS FORMAL EDUCATION: Required:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance, business administration or equivalent experience
Preferred:
- CPP, MBA, CPA or comparable
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: Required:
- 3+ years of North America payroll operations and tax experience
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Strong understanding of multi-state tax issues and compliance.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze tax data and identify discrepancies.
- Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy in all payroll tax-related tasks.
- Organizational Skills: Effectively manages time and prioritizes work to meet deadlines.

- Proficiency with payroll systems and MS Excel.
- Strong commitment to customer service.
Preferred:
- Ceridian Dayforce system experience
- Additional language skills would be an advantage

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Required:
- A demonstrated understanding of all aspects of payroll tax processes and their impact within the payroll processes and financials.
- The ability to review regulatory publications, understand technical terminology and easily determine the effect pending and/or newly enacted legislation will have on current Department procedures.
