Technical Product Owner

Position Summary:

The Technical Product Owner oversees the technology aspects of financial products and enables the organization to achieve strategic business objectives through technology and strong partnership between business, operations, and all other organizational ecosystems and stakeholders. The Tech Product Owner is primarily responsible for maximizing the value delivered by Agile teams by ensuring that the team's backlog is aligned with customer and stakeholder needs.

The Tech Product Owner acts as a vital link between technical and business teams. This role requires a unique blend of technical knowledge and product vision, to ensure that products align with business objectives and deliver value to the organization and its members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collects, evaluates, and analyzes data to solve problems and make decisionskeeping the business roadmap and objectives at the fore front. Regularly engage with business owners/Product Management to analyze market research and understand the business drivers that trigger feature requests. Understands financial services technologies and can assess feasibility of such technologies and how they can be leveraged through product development and/or configuration to achieve business objectives; able to translate business needs and pain points into detailed technical functional and non-functional requirements for developers and other agile team members to execute on. Identifies and effectively communicates and engages with stakeholders to understand needs, preferences, and pain points, and shares those with agile teams to ensure they are successfully addressed. Establishes a feedback loop of constant communication and flow of information with partners across the organization. Establishes equal partnership with the business/Product Manager/Owner to capture the most current needs of members and stakeholders, while fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability on the team. Collaborates closely with business, operations, systems, and sales stakeholders to understand strategic vision and business objectives, researches and understands market forces (e.g. market events, opportunities, competitive threats, and changing regulations) that can significantly influence product strategy in their respective area of focus, such as deposits, consumer or commercial lending, credit cards, fraud prevention, and others. Demonstrates empathy for members' needs and serves as a role model for TDECU's values. Manages and regularly prioritizes the team backlog with input from business/Product Management, System Architecture, and other stakeholders. Ensures the backlog has features, user stories, enablers, defects that are aligned with the most current needs of members and stakeholders, ready, so that the teams have always work ready to pull for implementation. Defines MVP focused on delivering business value incrementally; writes features, user stories, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with other agile team members. Validates that stories meet acceptance criteria, that it has the appropriate acceptance tests, and complies with its Definition of Done (DoD,) to ensure built-in quality. Defines product metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) or OKRs (objectives and key results) for monitoring and evaluation of product performance post deployment. Ensures solutions and designs evolve based on frequent review of member feedback, using a "Plan, Do, Check, Adjust," approach to identify areas for improvement and optimization of member experience and TDECU operations. Builds platform requirements and solutions that are compliant with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards. Implements and supports security measures and protocols to protect member and company data and assets. Focuses on continuous professional learning and development by taking advantage of training and learning opportunities available through and outside of TDECU.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, IT Management, or Business, or related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Certifications:

  • Product Owner Agile professional certification required.
    • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), or SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager preferred.

Experience:

  • 3 or more years of related IT experience with at least one to three years in IT, business/ financial services systems, analysis and product management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences regarding product vision, goals, requirements and changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver core responsibilities against deadlines.
  • Skilled in building detailed project plans and roadmaps.
  • Data-driven and able to identify patterns and tie activities to operational key results and departmental key performance indicators.
  • Aptitude for communicating ideas persuasively and concisely both up and across the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of JIRA and Agile methodologies such as SAFEs, Scrum and Kanban.
  • Highly collaborative and effective in cross-functional environments.
  • Demonstrates a passion for digital banking and user experience.
