Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a Hardware Engineering Manager who researches, develops, designs, tests, maintains, and supports consumer and industrial electronic equipment by performing the following duties.

Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • Lead a team of electrical, electronics, and mechanical engineers to design, develop, test, and deliver Globalstar products
  • Recruit, motivate, inspire, and mentor world-class hardware engineers


Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Act as a technical lead with outside design and manufacturing partners
  • Drive selection of electronic and RF components with performance, manufacturability, and product cost goals in mind
  • Prepare or direct preparation of schematics and PCB layout that meets DFx requirements with manufacturing partners
  • Generate and maintain internal and customer facing engineering documentation
  • Determine development test requirements and plans, and work with engineers to execute them
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
  • Produce/maintain formal documentation for the manufacture of designed products
  • Produce/maintain formal customer facing documentation
  • Work closely with manufacturing to ensure a smooth design handoff


Skills and Competencies:



  • Expertise developing embedded circuits from schematic capture thru critical layout (Altium preferred), BOM specification, hardware bring-up, prototyping, and production launch
  • Solid broad-based knowledge of analog, digital and RF circuits
  • Ability to technically manage external design partners to meet Globalstar's design and product goals and deliver high-quality work
  • Expertise in product lifecycle management, ERP, and document control working with contract manufacturers at medium to high volume
  • Collaborative approach working with Product Managers to define and negotiate requirements and implementation


Education, Experience, and Licenses/Certifications:



  • Bachelor's degree (BS) from four-year college or university in Electrical Engineering; 5 -7 years industry experience; 10+ years preferred
  • Prior experience as a technical lead on complex programs; experience as a manager preferred
  • Knowledge of schematic capture and PCB design tools; Altium preferred
  • Experience working with external design resources, such as ODM, JDM, design outsourcing, and turnkey product development partners
  • Knowledge of the PCBA fabrication and assembly process
  • Experience with battery or other low power wireless devices
  • Experience designing modern analog and digital electronics
  • Excellent design and manufacturing documentation skills with attention to detail
  • Understanding of EMI mitigation techniques and designing for regulatory compliance (FCC, CE, UL, ATEX)
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, DMMs, oscilloscopes
  • Experience with interfaces including I2C, SPI, USB, DDR, Flash, PCIe, UART, etc.


Physical Requirements:



  • If not located local to Globalstar's office in Covington, Louisiana, willingness and ability to travel to Covington as needed (estimated at 25%)
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
