JOB TITLE:

Sous Chef - Washakie Dining Center

JOB PURPOSE:

Join our passionate team at Washakie Dining Center as a Sous Chef and help fuel the campus community! As a Sous Chef you will arrange and participate in activities of cooks and other workers engaged in preparing and cooking foodstuffs. Assumes responsibility for the kitchen in absence of Chef or Executive Chef by supervising workers engaged in preparing and portioning foods to ensure that methods of cooking and portioning as prescribed. Instructs cooking personnel in fine points of cooking and customer service to ensure a high-quality experience for the campus community.

This position has been deemed essential as addressed in the University of Wyoming's Employee Handbook . Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closure based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform food production and supervise staff/students in proper food production techniques, food safety, efficiency, portioning, and presentation.
  • Assume responsibility for the kitchen in absence of lead Chef.
  • Oversee food production for area, recipe adherence, customer requests, unit events, and quality assurance.
  • Instruct cooking personnel on finer points of cooking and quality control standards.
  • Assist in the interviewing, training, supervision and evaluation of staff within unit.
  • Observe workers engaged in preparing, portioning, and garnishing foods to ensure that methods of cooking and garnishing and sizes of portions are as prescribed.
  • Ability to frequently lift 25+ lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation

WORK LOCATION ELIGIBILITY: This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States, as sponsorship for work authorization or work visas is not available for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associates degree, accredited culinary training or 3 years supervisory experience in a large volume culinary setting

Experience: 3 years work-related experience

Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements: Culinary certification preferred.
  • ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Allergy training (e.g., AllerTrain) or the ability to complete training within 6 months
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience leading in a culinary environment
  • Excellent Customer Service skill
  • Culinary certification
