The Disaster Recovery Coordinator develops, implements, and manages disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure Carilion Clinic can recover critical business functions during a disaster. This role will coordinate with various business owners and configuration item owners to identify potential risks, develop mitigation strategies, determine prerequisites, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. It will also negotiate recovery time objectives (RTO), recovery point objectives (RPO), and recovery level objectives (RLO) with business units in the context of tiering and limiting the number of systems in a tier to a reasonable and achievable technology capability.
The Disaster Recovery Coordinator will schedule and work with technology resources and business owners to achieve at least yearly disaster recovery exercises. Ensures all disaster recovery-related processes and procedures are up to date and accurate and that all technology staff are familiar with the disaster recovery plan. Serves as the primary coordinator in the event of a disaster and as a liaison between technical recovery teams and the senior management team.
Serves as the primary liaison between the IT recovery teams and senior management staff in the event of a disaster recovery scenario. Performs quarterly review and testing of the IT disaster recovery plan. Manages processes and policies associated with the maintenance and upkeep of the disaster recovery plan and ensure all IT staff are educated.
Duties & Responsibilities may include but not limited:
- Works with engineering resources to develop best practice approaches to disaster recovery technology.
- Develops and maintains comprehensive disaster recovery plans and procedures. Where possible, reference master recovery plans for each tier with exceptions for configuration items that require special handling.
- Ensures that Disaster Recovery is achievable within RTO limits.
- Understands and communicates the differences between Business Continuity, High Availability, and Disaster Recovery to senior leadership, business unit, and engineering resources.
- Conducts risk assessments and business impact analyses to identify critical business functions and potential risks.
- Conducts regular tabletop exercises, testing, and drills of disaster recovery plans to ensure effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
What We Require:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
Experience: Minimum three years' experience in Information Technology or related field.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Valid Virginia drivers' license and dependable transportation.
Additionally, any of the following are also preferred, but not required:
Other Minimum Qualifications: Good organizational skills, analytical, dependable, detail oriented, interpersonal skills, and understanding of the English language (both written and oral). Must have an in-depth understanding of all stages of the IT disaster recovery planning life-cycle including: requirement analysis, design, development, implementation, testing, maintenance, and execution. Must have excellent project management skills, and be customer service oriented.
